Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Tech shortage.

Hearing from a former coworker that T is offering employees $600 for employees referrals if they hire and a signing bonus if the new hire stays past 90 days in Indiana. What a sad state the company is in if they can’t keep new hires. I was told they hired 121 in the state 3 months ago and they all left at the 91st day.

Finally seeing the company get what they deserve.

The chickens are coming home to roost. AT&T hasn't invested anything in staff vitality, and grooming the next generation of techies for decades. The planning horizon has been the next quarter, and the modus operandi has been to offshore work for a quick boost to the balance sheet. Add to that billions wasted in ill-conceived M&A and you are left with the mess that the company is now. It seems that the ship is now taking on water faster than the pumps can work. Once the next wave of executive golden parachutes deploy, I wouldn't be surprised if the company goes bankrupt.

My company is offering up to $10,000 for referrals. $600? Why bother? You are definitely going to lose the friendship.

Would you even consider going to work for a company that forces you to stay at work everyday until they release you? Regardless of what time it is or how many hours you’ve worked? Then only giving one weekend a month off. Very difficult for someone with a spouse or children. Perfect example of what a corporation will do if given a chance.

“Some people are stuck in a bad position and have to put the company in the best light possible to justify their inability to make better life decisions.”

Here, let me fix this so it more accurately portrays your role in the corporation…

Some people are stuck in a bad position and have to put the company in the worst light possible to justify their inability to make better life decisions.

See how easy that was?

employee referral bonuses is pretty standard in many large corporations, don't read too much into that.

They pay for referrals but in 3 years they will lay those people off. It’s the AT&T cycle-pay to come then pay to go.

Come on, you gotta make it believable when you make up rumors.

Sounds like the turnover rate for Prem Techs. Don't fool yourself. AT&T is not hiring anyone but term employees'. Does anyone expect those employees' to have a drop of loyalty. AT&T is reaping what they have sowed.

I would take the word of a coworker that I worked side by side with for 25 years before I would take the word of a piece of sh-t like you. Some people are stuck in a bad position and have to put the company in the best light possible to justify their inability to make better life decisions.

You were told this, and you believed it? 121 new hires left on the 91st day? Lol, some people will believe anything.

Two things. First, AT&T is doing mass hiring right now. We are dumping tons of money into our fiber and wireless build, and for that we need techs. Second point, these referral bonuses have been a thing for many years now. It’s not even remotely new. I’ve been getting those emails for as long as I can remember.

The real irony is that some people just want something to complain about so badly that they are moaning about the company hiring a ton of people on a forum designated for layoff discussions.
