Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

How hard was the decision to leave?

I'm not feeling good here anymore. I used to be proud to work here but now there are many things I don't like at BNY Mellon anymore and I don't enjoy my job very much anymore either. I've been thinking about leaving for a long time, but I hesitate a lot. It's hard to start from the beginning and besides all jobs have their ups and downs, nowhere is the grass much greener... When did you decide it was really time to quit?

Not hard at all, and I left after 19 years. Given I had another job offer but it was an easy decision. I got exceeds expectations every year in my PMP and helped bring a lot of opportunities in the door during my tenure and I was treated like an afterthought by management upon giving my notice. No counteroffer, no exit interview, no “sorry you’ll be missed”, no thank you. But they sure wanted me to bust my tail until the last minute of my last day. My former manager still tries to call me and ask questions.

F**k that place. What he-l ho-e. Glad I’m gone.

It wasn’t hard after they laid off some key people who were mentors the beginning of this year. Paid big money to get JPMorgan execs in ... and watched as they eliminated certain demographics as a quick way to diversify.
Out of banking now- it’s just not the place to create a future.

When I realised that most people around me were rude, unreasonable and the thought of having to deal with them gave me anxiety. Life is too short for that.
I suddenly realised all the nice ones had gone elsewhere and I was left surrounded with a majority of toxic people.
Just never understood why some people at BNYM act deliberately difficult and rudely… like they are better than anybody else for no reason.

The grass is greener when you reinvent yourself.
That’s what I did when they pinkslipped me.
I am much better off today for it.
Scary? You bet. Yet it is worth it.

Save some living expense; find a hobby as a part job to make pocket money. Then quit and enjoy your hobby for a while then start to look for a real 9-5 job again. This is what I did.

It was pretty easy for me. I was going to retire next year but in January they told me they were going to pay me for doing nothing for 10 months.

Nothing wrong with quitting if you aren't bogged down with any big debts or loans at the moment. Just leave BNYM, kick back, and relax until you're ready for your next job.
