A colleague who I know personally was boasting confidentially that he got a raise. I thought there was a freeze on salary increase.

Why is this a surprise? The Company still has an HR plan in place. Some people can be upwardly mobile in a "frozen" or even decreasing pay scale system. The masses will just hold ground for a long time, hence the "pay freeze".
@qkb+1bEqxKCc wrong. Just those with a VP sponsor. An engineer with five years experience can’t say they impact the stock price and those with sponsors were given raises.
No freeze for those with a sponsor. I am a supervisor and have given raises and CL promotions.
yes...a small group of selected employees got raises..requires VP or higher approval.
Rest of us...the door is open 24/7

The company selectively gave out raises to the people that impact their stock prices in trading decisions the most. The rest of us are just sc-m.
I personally know somebody who got a CL increase and a raise this month. Not a manager, surprisingly.
This is correct ... very few got.
Might not be truthful. And in my day. You kept that news too yourself.
