Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Gratuitous hostility & rudeness - why??

I realised that most people around me are gratuitously rude, hostile and unreasonable. The thought of having to deal with them working from home gives me anxiety….I don’t even want to think about returning to the office and having to deal with the rudeness face to face.
I realise all the nice ones have gone elsewhere and I am left surrounded by a majority of toxic people.
Just never understood why some people at BNYM act deliberately difficult and rudely… like they are better than anybody else for no reason? Why, why do you have to be like that?

Yeah, I can't wait for the tantrum pulling, arms crossed, feet stomping, miserable 3 year olds to return either. Will just make the day that much more pleasant. Will make sure to have a brand new batch of pacifiers at the ready.

Join the workforce. I have worked at many companies and it's everywhere. I understand what you're saying but it's not just a BNY problem.

It's a reflection of how incompetent our company leadership is, especially the executive committee! Maybe our inept management should read and follow their own code of conduct! (Instead of just cherry picking when to apply it (or not apply it) for their own corrupt convenience!)

It is also funny to see certain senior managers that are all about kindness and empathy and ’people are our greatest assets’ on Town Halls and at events, then in individual meetings they are awful to people…….for no reason

Certain senior managers thrive on being rude, difficult and downright spiteful to their "subordinates". They are not like this to their seniors though, quite the opposite. It's how they get promoted.
I am looking to leave after one particular poisonous little elf succeeded in gaining a promotion whilst simultaneously making everyone she ought to be collaborating with, feel useless and stressed. Working with people like that makes it futile trying to succeed here.
I'm hoping the grass will be much greener for me when I leave. It can't be much worse.

Yet, good performers also get mistreated. So it’s not about managing actual good performance, and dealing with the non performers. It’s about who can prevail over the other, look like they are ‘better’ in the most convincing way, to convince others they are performing. A lot of it is all about the act, not the substance.

With the forced rankings imposed upon the staff, it’s no wonder people are rude and not helpful to each other.

It is not a matter of dealing with non-performers....it is a mandate.

it happens everywhere to a degree, but at BNYM it seems to be a high degree lately. Out of 10 interactions, 9 are off. No wonder why people don’t want to go back to the office.
