Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

Giving notice...

Many IT people are leaving before the August move overseas. Some are not giving any notice. There one day and gone the next. This makes it rough on those left.

What Ascension is doing is wrong, but they let people know well in advance.
In many corporations the first time someone knows they are being outsourced is also their last day.

It only seems right to give at least 2 weeks notice.

Ascension employees are all at-will employees so they can let you go any time they want with no notice. The reason they gave us a 60 day notice this time was due to the WARN Act which required them to due to the number of people being let go...

My new employer wanted me sooner than the notice I gave. To them, the climate in AT was an opportunity to start sooner rather than later.

Yes, I agree 2 weeks would be nice but AT requires a 4 weeks notice which is ludicrous...

A lot of discussion.

Should clarify that what Ascension is doing is wrong. No argument. But, thoughts on giving them notice before leaving. Not because a person wants to go back there.

But it could look bad to the new employer.

It's not mngment posting, it's their social media folks, the same people who post passive aggressive or tone deaf replys on Indeed and Glassdoor.

The only reason for AT's notice is so the people who got canned could train their replacements.

And why would anyone want to work there in the future?

In response to this post below:
"If someone leaves a job without notice to work for me they will probably leave me someday without notice. Would not hire them. Character flaw. Ascension is wrong but this does not make it right."

It's not a character flaw at all. If someone left a job without notice, and you were their manager - you were partially the problem. I guarantee that people are leaving ascension and giving 2 weeks notice to managers they respect.

Eduardo has no experience in healthcare coming from motorola. His plan to switch to cut staff, outsource, and switch to google from microsoft has been a disaster. Good people will never come back even after he leaves.

Ascension will be fine. They’ll go back domestically when Eduardo is crucified for the losses and another one comes in to fix it. That’s what makes grand ideas so grand—they’re recycled from other companies in the same industry.

When we were all hired by Ascension or one of its ministries, we all signed a document stating that we were "at-will employees" meaning they could terminate us with no notice for any reason or no reason at all. The flip side of that coin is all of us can walk away with no notice for any reason or no reason at all. If we do just walk away then it's a burned bridge though...

Looks like ascension mgt is making posts now. Were you not here in 2018 when they did a mass layoff in 1-2 days - folks had zero notice. Only reason I'd give an actual notice is if I wanted to be hired back in the future aka in 2-3 years when people realize how bad HCL and TechM are and Ascension decides to bring the jobs back in house.

Are you kidding? Ascension only gave folks notice because they were required to by law. If it wasn't for the WARN Act, they would've laid everyone off with no notice.

IT employees require four weeks notice FYI.

If one gets a better opportunity elsewhere , take it. Especially if they will take you now. 0 day notice, 2/4 week.... do it.

Ascension will be just fine.
