Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Escaped the NSI rating by a hair it seems - but even that miscommunicated

I've been asked to 'Carry On' as a proud member of the We Are.
But the delivery of the message was more:
'Hey! You're not Carrion! Good going.
Won't be picking your bones for now, lucky one.'

To be honest, it was disappointing on a few levels.
I'd set my start date with another company in October.
I'll 'Carry On' until then, I suppose.

A few years ago my co-worker was PIPed. After each meeting with his/her supervisor, he/she would show me the feedback sheet. It was designed to make that person fail. I saw one criticism from the supervisor saying something along the lines of "you did X this way, and it shouldn't have been done like that. That's not our procedure." The co-worker then showed me an email THAT WEEK from the supervisor specifically telling him/her to do X that specific way. Of course that co-worker didn't go into the meeting expecting that to be an issue, so he/she didn't have the email printed to present to the supervisor. Management wanted that person gone, and they made sure it happened.

My sister-in-law was laid off from BP three (3) months ago. After working for them for fifteen (15) years they gave her one (1) year's pay as severance pay.

I was communicated today.
Another year of a life term. But more friendly.
Like you, I've decided to move on anyhow and this experience has been the driver.

A long term STP was at EMHC for a few weeks away from an expat assignment. He mentioned to me upon return that his fishbowl peeps let him know of a lot of cuts coming. Word on the street.

Each PIP is in fact individual. I have been involved in helping to create then for individuals in the past. They are usually created by the direct supervisor with input from others and then sent for approval to HR whi can also modify them. Key things to look for in your PIP....how subjective are the tasks to complete. example; create an improved operating procedure. this is relatively good to have as there is a fairly though not exact, defined goal. example 2; contribute more towards the goal of We Are ExxonMobil. this is bad because it is hard to define what that means exactly. Second thing to note, do you think your supervisor likes you? if they do, they will do their very best to make sure you pass the PIP, (though they aren't the only decider they are the potential kingmaker). If they don't like you then it is enough for them to say you didnt satisfy the goals and say goodbye to you. As always, the outcome is largely decided before it begins with some small wiggle room each way. If you behave during PIP like you don't care and you want to leave, then the supervisor is unlikely to stick their neck out for you. If they believe that you really are trying hard to stay with the company, (and you don't cause them too much trouble), then they will go out of their way for you.
My suggestion would be to ask to get the PIP, take a look, and if you feel it is a foregone conclusion then you can convert it to a PIL at any time. Maybe they told you that, maybe they didn't, but that is the policy. As a Supervisor, best of luck to you with what you choose, and remember, the PIP percentages came from Corporate, not your supervisor, so try not to be too harsh on them, they are in a hard place with mandatory numbers to meet. Its you or someone else, and likely isn't personal.

My team is NSI for 3 out of 9, including myself.
I saw an earlier post when the NSI called out the supervisor with the manager also in the call. If only.
So the debate for me is to try PIP or just get up and go.
Is there a script for everybody's PIP or is it really individual?
My pitiful supervisor could not even answer that.
Definitely reading an everybody script.

And on the Carry On joke -
Just the other day on the way to Bush International, I saw 3 turkey buzzards dragging a side of deer ribs off to the side of the road. And I also thought - carrion / carry-on.
That's teamwork!

I had a similar experience with the 1-on-1 last week.
I felt like the discussion was interrupting my supervisor's PM BM.
No relief for me, really.

I lost all respect for this company when I saw how dirty they were to people in the first round. This has been nothing but an unethical joke.
