Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Isn’t worth the risk to speak up?

After a colleague, with the best of intentions and out of his great passion for the job he was doing and his enthusiasm for working for Ford, made a few remarks about how some things and processes should be improved - they got rid of him very quickly.
Today, such people are dealt with even faster. However, I am not at all clear about the people who still have the illusion that their voice is worth something here. Ford doesn’t need people who think for themselves.

@ JH Your response: You should quit!

Somebody gets easily offended. The person who wrote the post you are responding to must have hit the nail directly on the head (that is - Your Head). It couldn't be someone like you who the author was writing about, Could it??

That or you are just one of the company cheerleaders for the new Ford Social Justice Company. You must be on the "Cancel Culture" Team. You didn't like what the person wrote, so according to you, they should go because you are so right about everything.

@3awn+1beF2L9G, ah yes 5yrs, I remember what it felt like and what I thought. A lot of big ideas but no real beholding responsibility of children and the need to provide the best possible future for them. Yes, I live in one of the cities you listed that provide the best environment and education I can give them. No "big house" for me. I stay in order to give to them. I have given up hope on the dreams I once had for myself and traded now instead for the dreams I have for my children. I hope to impart my learnings someday to them as a word of caution and not sell your soul in naivete for companies like Ford. I realized too late I trusted the PR above my common sense. It was all ever lies to get people to stay so long they could not leave.

I understand perfectly how you feel. Almost nothing gets done right at Ford. Even the good ideas are wrongly implemented.

Sure, you can scream your soul out, but nothing gets fixed. Low and middle level managers are already aware of the problems. They just don't want to "rock the boat". That leaves you with 2 options: learn to live with it, or leave the company.

Personally, I learned (almost) to live with it. I still point the wrongs, and I try to do a good job. My reward is that my plate is always full, even when I know some of my teammates are twiddling their thumbs. BTW, my exit plans are always up to date, just in case.

Good luck to you!

Thanks

Internal speak-up doesn't work,

have to try external speak-up! Hire a good lawyer and fight precisely

Ford salary employees - you are all either a bunch of cowards or apathetic, low self-respect individuals, or just willing to sell your soul/conscious for the almighty $$$$. You all get paid more than you could at any other employer, so you just don't want to rock the boat and lose your big house in Canton, Novi, Northville, Rochester, Troy, etc. Oh, the shame if you had to live in Westland or may I even say it, Taylor, but keep your self worth and soul. Speak up, be a leader. I have been at Ford for 5 years and I speak up all the time. So what if they have my name? News update - they already have our names. You are the same people complaining about our kids being indoctrinated in the K-12 schools and colleges while sitting there saying/doing nothing about that either, yet still bragging about your alma mater to anyone who will listen and bragging about your donations to these worthless, self serving universities. When we were in the office I had to listen to 90% of you talk out your behinds about leadership, the latest corporate fads/cultures, etc., but none of you will speak up about a dying company with a horrible company culture for fear of losing your job. So what if they do fire you? Go, get another job. Oh, I know you won't be able to go on your big vacations, buy your material lifestyle choices (nice cars, clothes, restaurants, etc.) Too bad, you will at least have a soul. I can't believe I have to work with a bunch of egotistical, know-it-alls yet you are all too scared too be the people you tell yourselves and others (in person and on your resumes) that you are. There is no leadership at any level at Ford - whether it is the executive, management, or GSR level -Period.

No. Simply, it’s not worth the risk to speak up. It’s high risk and low reward. I’ve seen too much retaliation.

Unfortunately, this is the way of the corporate world now. Once upon a time, a company would value ideas and suggestions it received from all levels of employees. Rewards were sometimes given such as a a percentage of cost savings that were implemented.

Now? Unless the idea comes from management or higher, it's a waste of time to speak up.

I was one site where a 'lowly' programmer suggested a great idea. It was rejected. About a year later some manager or director made the same suggestion. It was the best idea since sliced bread and it was implemented/adopted.

Ford doesn't want people that can think. Ford wants people that will worship at the management alter without question. People that will work to support the continuation of the toxic and abusive corporate culture they have worked so long to cultivate.
