Thread regarding General Atomics layoffs

Run away from GA if you can

This is mostly for new employees - leave before you get too comfortable. GA is one of the worst places to get stuck right now - and you can get stuck so easily. If you happen to know what you're doing you'll never be promoted. Your managers will want to keep you right where you are so you can continue to make them look good. You'll learn no new skills and switching to a new company will become a pipe dream. Just stay away if you know what's good for you.

From my experience I had at GA, promotion depended on the boss you had. In my department, there were employees that got promoted without any resistance and got promoted without having to have any extensive knowledge while in my department, there were people who knew more than many of the managers there but couldn't get promoted because our volatile manager wouldn't promote anyone unless they were "perfect". If you tried to transfer to another department, he would go after you for betrayal. It was NOT a coincidence that our department had high turnover.

If you stay at GA long enough you won’t have any options….. it’s sad but people aren’t clamoring for GA talent! Will be a negative if you are looking to join a tech or biomedical company

If I ever decided to leave, run, skip or whatever from GA, I know where it may and may not be,

Amazon - Nope

Boeing - Not sure Don't know much about Boeing or if GA people go there. Rains a lot in Seattle. Don't think I'd want to go to St Louis to live there either,

Lockheed - Not sure. Do not know much about Lockheed or if they are interested in hiring GA people interested in working for them.

Northrop - Same as Lockheed don't know much about the company.

Navy here in SD. Never considered Navy jobs before. Don't know if they are interested in GA people.

Have never looked at other local companies in San Diego so not sure what the prospects are.

Apple - No thanks.
