Whatever it's my choice and our entire team of 20+ people loving it. I bet many other IBMers are doing the same and that's why company hasn't grown in last few years.
Let me tell you in detail. Our team work on very core product. They can't even touch us. I don't want to disclose my entire team. But our product is 20+ years old. We are mainly working on customer issues and have quarterly release, so not immediate attention needed.
People take every Thursday and Friday whole day off. ( Entire team). Just having few scrums and discussion about what are we planning for next week. Monday-Wednesday people prefer to keep dr appointments, banking appointments and household chores. Not kidding, people go for groceries, so they have free weekends to enjoy. Most of the folks are 40+. Only 3 of us have joined the team in last 7 years. So earlier we were like wth? Then we started our own things. We can finish our weekly tasks in 2 hrs and rest free.
That's what I love about our team and IBM. Execs are happy making money. Our whole team gets 3-5% raise for 6-8 people on yearly rotation basis. Everyone is happy with the cycle. I am damn sure I couldn't get this much of work life balance in any companies or other teams.
Also, my friend's team in IBM works for 10-15 hrs weekly. It's slightly more than us but still we can enjoy every Friday together. They have only Friday offs.
This is why we love IBM and still here. We don't care about execs or IBM at all. All people know IBM is drowning and they are not going to give any good raises or bonuses. So it's how we make our life happy.
Our families are also happy.
@6sbn agree. As long as IBM has sh--e workers they have an excuse for what they do.
If you don't care about IBM, fine. If they don't care about you, fine. But the basic agreement is that you work and they pay you. If they pay you a full-time salary and you don't work, you're stealing. The right answer is for you to leave - so why don't you? Maybe you would work 2 hours a week and steal the rest wherever you worked. I totally agree you shouldn't trust IBM with anything but that's not an excuse to rob them.
Why should I care and work or give my full efforts when all the pay and bonuses going only to execs?
Am I doing a labor job? I don't care about IBM or their growth unless I am also getting good raises. Currently, I am just working for very good work life balance (2 hrs a week have to work). Rest 38 hrs, I am taking care of my family.
When we had to go to office, I was having two laptops and using my personal laptop for earning extra money from IBM offices.
That's why I love IBM in my early career.
It’s ironic that you baggers talk about how cr---y ibm is and doesn’t innovate nor make good products, and then gloat how you sit at work and do nothing and don’t care about the company.
That’s what I have been doing for 20 years at IBM… I need 5 more years like that before I can retire… so keeping my fingers crossed!
Do nothing and get paid well for doing it. I did. It took these brilliant execs over 20 years to figure it out. By that time it was too late. I already had enough to retire. Eat sh-t IBM.
This is nothing knew, IBM has always been like this. Back in the day when IBM was floating in money the execs took their cut and what was left was passed down. It is the same today, except that there is not much money, but the exec still take their big cut and there is little if anything left to pass down.
I suspect anyone could do Board Room. Those folks are surrounded by advisors. And apparently the job is so easy they can be on multiple boards... how may work-a-day folks could hold down 2, 3, 4 instances of their jobs???
The table is tilted folks.
The onus on each of us is how to jump that class gap. Something we weren't taught by the educational system et. al. We were all basically trained to be worker bees.
for JW, is this his stock vesting for sticking around long enough after the acquisition? I believe it's annual for something like 5 yrs, right?
Just another reason to say NO to relocation.
Most IBMers Band 9 and under get no stock as part of the offer. Most RSU - which is a very small amount - aka 7K RSU spread over 4 years in 2 year iterations for Band 7 is given for retention.
The executives are given RSUs and not options. Nothing left for employees.
We got a 500 dollar cash award for high performers.
It is not clear to me which of the two links is "correct" in that one says "Stock Gift" and the other says "Options Award"
If it is stock being given, that is sad, as it is millions of dollars going straight to execs.
I am actually OK if it is options, since they won't make a penny if the stock goes down. However, employees should be given options too - it would help motivate them.
I wonder what the ratio is for options given to execs compared to the number given to all other employees combined. It should be something like 1:100 but I suspect it is much lower.

and behind the scenes employees, yes many older, are being RA'd in record numbers of course in actions small enough to escape WARN....disgusting
OMG. How many share do this people get? VP & Director level each year?
Looks like all the net profit is distributed between exec, and nothing has been left for employees raised or bonuses.
