Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

Effects of negative publicity

Will negative publicity force leadership back to slightly more ethical behavior as someone mentioned?

AH is getting more and more negative publicity for a reason, and their arrogance contributes to further degrading the company's name. I hope something changes for the better, but I don't have much hope.

Not sure with all systems, but some of the servers / applications were transitioned from physical tape to virtual tape. Once the virtual tape libraries were replicating for D/R, the physical tapes WERE destroyed. However anything destroyed had been duplicated to virtual which was then replicating to off site locations before destruction of the physical media.

And before someone tries to say that I'm a dupe or company dweeb saying the party line, my position and server group was 100% outsourced to HCL back in October 2020.

And I'm still looking. Amazon is starting to become attractive at this point.

@bnrw+1bgIwfRr you need to report this to HHS and Medicare.

Being one of hundreds of employees let go in the first round, all I can say is late last year all "old" data tapes (including patient data) were destroyed. As Ascension changed its backup data vendor all tapes were destroyed. I believe this is a violation in HIPAA standards. We were led to believe data had to be retained for 7 years.

The people at the top such as Gerry Lewis and Doug Mcgonnical should have been fired as this was there responsibility to keep IT in order. At least Gerry got his 2.5 million dollar bonus while the rest of us were left without employment.

@vhx+1bgIwfRr just wait until the inevitable data breach...which, let's face it, can't be prosecuted or even taken care of in civil courts---overseas.

@jnr+1bgIwfRr - As you alluded to, turnover in tech companies in India is pretty steep. We worked with Indian engineers at my last gig and at that time average tenure for a software engineer in India 1 1/2 years while in the United States average tenure ran between 15-20 years. Companies in India are constantly training someone new. I feel that eventually, Ascension Tech will re-shore the jobs when the clinical types get tired of dealing with Indians and I have nothing against any of them.

Previous post is correct. They can handle negative press. They are not the only company doing this. The red herring is of course the pandemic but many homegrown American companies been planning out head reductions and re-shoring for more than three years now. Blame Trump for lowering their penalties and corporate taxes for doing so.

The new contractor is having their own turnover and theyre seeing negative impact on patient care.

Speaking of…

The Google EMR…. HCA and AH are getting blacklash for migrating over

I saw care studio executives jumping ship I’m wondering how quickly that ship will sink or hit the first iceberg without their captain.

I’m a macro sense, no. This just gets churned into everyday news. It’s big news to those affected because, well, those are impacted. However, customers don’t go to hospitals for the IT department.

I haven’t looked at a company and choose another one based on where their support is based. I doubt many do.
