Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Reasons that make you lose motivation?

When I see how many people are in positions they don’t qualify for at all, I’d rather quit right away.
Is this a way for this company to motivate employees?
Anything is possible as long as you have the right connections?
I am very disappointed and the motivation is zero.

What made me lose motivation and led me to quit was management in the branches only caring about the VPs and FCs, and not about any of the support staff-- the FRs, RMs, and SRMs without whom the branches cannot even open in the morning. Being in team meetings where VP/FC comp and shares were discussed right in front of support staff was insulting and demoralizing. And if these was an issue between a VP/FC and a support staffer, management would always take the side of the VP/FC.

Nothing will change from the VBO. The managers who are deadwood know they can't get another job outside Fidelity and they will NEVER take any VBO package. The more senior they are, the more company equity shares they have. Many of those taking the VBO know they are employable elsewhere. Thus they are taking the package with the hopes to 'double dip' on salary for a while.

there are many mid level managers, svp managers who suck, and terrible at there jobs. unfortunately, its a networking world and unless they do something very stupid, they will never get fired. if you look at this VBO, there are many managers who everyone wished would take it but didn't. why take a VBO when you have zero risk of ever getting terminated , even with poor leadership and managerial skills. side note, there are some really good managers, i wish i had a few of them.

You know, you don't have to work there. Go out and get what you're worth

Won’t get any better after the VBO. Now they’re bringing in kids of higher ups who VBO’d and left earlier.

Fido has always been about the internal network and getting their friends promoted. Interestingly, vbo was supposed to open spots for mobility, but I see either "friends" getting promoted, or new SVPs from the outside. Lol

There are so many posts of people thinking people are unqualified in positions at Fidelity. I want to just say I work with a lot of qualified people. Smart people. Some people I know are a lot smarter than I am and honestly that is who I love to work with. Also wouldn’t smart people make networking connections to grow their career? I would think it’s smart to connect with where you want to be to be able to move into that space. Be proactive go seize some opportunities. They are out there for everyone not just select groups and if you feel that way your probably the one holding yourself back.

Wait until you see who gets to fill the newly vacated spots.

But ... realistically, just keep your head down and nod along. Nothing will change. In time, you will make the 'connections' and someone will complain about you being unqualified. By then you would have lost all skills and your motivation would be money. It's a waiting game here. Have you seen the tenure of people compared to other companies?
