Thread regarding Pioneer Natural Resources Co. layoffs

Mismanaged and nuts

This place has turned into a giant tu-d. Everyone seems to be afraid of something. Poor decisions are being made. The only experienced leadership is at the MC level and they are completely disconnected. Middle management is a product of brown nosing. People with real experience are brushed aside.
Sucks…don’t think this company will survive for long.

Some of MC’s experience:

  • experience overestimating Eagleford type curves that were used to justify terrible midstream commitments
  • experience justifying an Eagleford infill drilling program that failed horribly
  • experience writing down huge reserves volumes
  • experience drilling a deep water well that they could barely inject into and drilling it sm--k dab where San Andres pressure is the lowest in the basin.

Most importantly. They have experience owning acreage that turns very valuable when other companies discover the Eagleford and the Wolfcamp shale. Experience which hides the fact that they have failed at every exploration attempt and major acquisition (Raton, Barnett, etc) for the past 15 years.

I know I will be downvoted, but I’m going to defend our leadership, at least the ops chain. They are all human, but are genuinely trying to do the right thing for you and the company. Rarely in corporate America does leadership give a cr-p about you, but I have personally witnessed our leadership doing the best they can to help employees. They have bosses too, and shareholders absolutely don’t give a cr-p about you. That said, I’m not in management and I think the last layoff was untimely and a mistake.

OP, you're being generous saying that the MC has experience. Maybe they have management experience, but they definitely do not have technical experience.

I'm not sure why geomanagers always get the shaft since there are some really bad ones in key departments that spend most of the companys money. As a person who was let go in October I have to say that working at pioneer is like owning a boat, your happiest days are the first and the last! A few months away make you realize that life can be glorious not dealing with the politics and why these politics force management to sabotage departments at the companys expense.
