Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

How long did it take you to fit in?

I read some posts about the job fair and hiring new people and I remembered when I first came here a few years ago. I don’t know if my bigger problem was a very arrogant manager or colleagues who were very rude. Of course, there were exceptions, but it took me a long time to fit in here. So now I try to help every new employee. This is a ruthless company.

Don’t worry about fitting in! Do your job and go home, if you get to fit in you will be involved in drama, the one doesn’t like you will make lies about you and get you in trouble, the snakes and the kiss bu-t ones will do anything to get you fired! If you are one of the good workers!!! Experience talking.

How would receiving associates be able to take old tires? Used tires are kept outside in the tire cage, not taken to claims.

Let us see if I want to fit in.

At my club in my short time we had 3 membership associates get terminated for dipping in the tills.

2 receiving associates get terminated one for changing paperwork and taking home used tires and selling them on a local online garage sale type website. And one for just blatantly taking anything that was meant for the compactor putting it in the associates personal van as well as making entire pallets of shelving going missing and claiming the shelving was not on the truck.

1 associate who punched a member for dropping a plastic water bottle. 1 associate who punched another associate for helping after the associate who threw the punch said they did not need or want any help.

Currently there are at least 6 knowing alcoholics working in the club. In the past 5 years 6 associates were terminated due to being drunk while at work. And another 6 just quit before they got caught.

3 front end associates were terminated and prosecuted for dipping into the tills. Plus one along with a membership associate created over $500 in gift cards allegedly. The amount is probably higher but the $500 is what the club was able to find via paper trail and electronic transactions.

Yeah not fitting in works for me.

You only need to know how to do your job to the best of your ability and stay out of trouble.

I think sometimes people seem rude because you catch them while they are super busy. If I have 3 trucks to unload and vendors to check in, I don’t have time to explain where all the supplies are in 5s. Your fellow merchandisers should be training you better.

indeed ruthless ! not a Ruth in the place !... hahaha seriously though... 30 years and still an outsider... I have never really felt a part of the place... sure I get along with most folks but that is not the same as being a part.

It takes a minute to get to know people. I smile, and say hello to new people, but I'm not eating lunch with a stranger.

I had no problem 12 years ago, however there cliques. Example; the back room people took breaks and lunches together and really were not very friendly. Some of the cashiers were just awful. As time went on things got a lot easier, co-workers were nicer. Now I am considered one of the senior people and things are good.

Yes it is a ruthless company. I fit in immediately....but that was nearly 30 years ago and I was in the right club. Nowadays seems like all clubs are bad as far as management, coworkers, merchandise, just everything. Some members are what has kept me there. But it is time to get the heck out. Good luck, but I honestly don't see things getting better there.
