Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

When did you lose all motivation?

That is, how long have you been working here without any motivation?

It’s really awful to work anywhere just for the sake of payment. Very often I feel sorry for customers, but simply this company no longer provides any motivation for employees to make an effort and do something more than the minimum they have to.

Management selection process at AIG is based solely on who you know, with the exception of some token "diversity" candidates..That's the reality. So many comments make comments about how awful things are, but no follow through on what their next step is.

If you want to wallow in misery, that's your choice. ALWAYS be looking for new opportunities to network and learn new things. Most folks don't have jobs that consume so much bandwidth that they don't have time to learn new things, make new connections, join new groups, etc.
In short, you should fire AIG before they fire you. Many companies are hiring Younger employees without much to lose severance wise should especially consider this choice.

Would you like to super size you policy by adding an endorsement?

AIG is a job not a career. If you treat it as such then it puts it into perspective. Consider yourself a McDonalds employee that makes more money. Yeah, it pays the bills, but you aren't going anywhere to advance your career so move on to a real company when possible.

Being denied opportunities for more responsibility because I "don't have enough exposure to other departmental functions" (yeah, genius, no sh**...how do you think people gain more exposure to other departmental functions?)

Being made to feel like I'm the bad guy for being a higher than average performer

Being told it's my job to "be at my desk" when I left to take my break (which is funny because it's not like I had any real work to do anyway)

Seeing others get rewarded for minuscule achievements which pale in comparison to mine (which of course I get passive aggressively punished for achieving by being stonewalled from career progression)

Having mid level managers dictate and essentially hold others in career stagnation, especially those who they know are intellectually and creatively superior to them.

Looking for other opportunities while I scoff at the idea of a "2 week notice" ..which I'm sure those same mid level managers feel is important for the "transition of job duties" ... the same duties that a mindless space chimp could do, day in and day out.

When after months of my managers mostly ignoring me and providing no support (I had foolishly assumed they were doing the best they could), they saw nothing wrong in nitpicking some work and being as adversarial as possible about the work I was doing.

Reality check time. Your job amd career is YOURS to manage, not AIGs. If you're not motivated to do a good job, If only for your own self interest, than there's a bigger problem.

Life isn't fair. AIG leadership is definitely out for themselves. So what to do? Build your brand. Learn new skills. Volunteer in areas that matter to you. Wake up and decide you're going to have a good day first thing.
If you are just fed up because you've had enough, I get it 100%. The job market is pretty good, at least in tech. Find another job, ask your manager to be put on next RIF, and if the manager refuses, leave anyway and don't burn bridges.

I remember the exact moment. March 17, 2021 at around 10a when they told me I was going to be replaced by Accenture.
