Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

What a farce...

Management is deeply brainwashed. The "value proposition" of an ExxonMobil career decreases by the day, especially when these robots spew the same non-answers week after week.

Site management is caught between a rock and a hard place... "focus on what you can control," culture changes, and half-assed attempts at addressing the rot at the core of this company only work to convince only the most inept and least talented individuals working here.

Management wants you to think you are fortunate to be working here, because they have been brainwashed to think that this is the only reputable company to work for. Were they to consider the alternative, it would immediately cause an existential crisis because it would call into question their entire identity. They are incapable of admitting to themselves that their identity is all made up of spewing bu-----t and trading transparency/integrity for a career here.

After 15 years in the industry, I've reached out to some of my contacts, and I can guarantee we are underpaid and getting shafted by this company year over year. Recent people that have departed from the company are reporting receiving a 10-20% pay bump, with 401k benefits on top of that, purely from lateral moves. Some are seeing 40-50% pay bumps, since they negotiated well.

I, for one, have listened to management and I have decided to "focus on what I can control" and I will be resigning by EOM. I am one of the lucky ones that is receiving a significant pay bump from leaving this joke of a company to head to the tech industry.

Word to the wise - if you think there will be opportunities that abound at XOM once the dust settles, you are kidding yourself. You will be left to compete for scraps, and then your job will be offshored to India/Malaysia in 3-5 years when TMTS rolls through your division. Move while you can.

Thank you for using the term "management". I cringe whenever people use the word "leadership" since there isn't any at EM.

Different country but similar view… as the dust settles, there will be enormous holes in the organisation through the redundancies and attrition… leadership will push people into roles despite alternate career discussions to fill the business needs. Remuneration won’t come, and frustration will grow, if external opportunities present themselves it’s probably the right choice

Here's a tip: working anywhere for 15 years certainly means you are underpaid.

It's the nature of the compensation structure. You need to move companies every 4 to 5 years. You'll get 20-30% each time.

Gone are the days that working hard here and the career will take care of itself.

Every man for himself.

Brutal but well written…

You make a good point, these attempts to curtail attrition are mediocre at best. Everyone that drinks the koolaid is going to be stuck being overworked once the smart ones leave.
