Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Was this ever a good place to work?

I often hear oldtimers lament about the "good old days" when working here was great and everything functioned properly and I have trouble believing that. I can understand a company changing somewhat throughout the years but I can't see this place taking such a drastic turn as they're describing. Am I wrong?

The UP was a good place to work 20+ years ago, or at least where I was. You had good management and bad management throughout the years. The last six years of management have been by far the worst, and that's not an overstatement. The current CEO is and always will be a Wall Street darling. He's doing exactly what they want, and making himself tens of millions of dollars a year. Him and the rest of the crooked executive team still get bonuses, with some of the bonuses in the hundreds of thousands. It's sad to see the UP in such a condition like this. Like I said, I never trusted him from the beginning. What I can't understand is why so many people did.

It really was most who landed these jobs were seriously the envy of friends and relatives. Now sadly not so much.

It wasn't this bad, at times we were over worked, under staffed, and managers would pencil whip reports here and there. But in the "old days" there were more people and bigger budgets so we kinda could catch up and things would calm down for awhile. The work loads were at times too much but if it was really bad there would be someone to come over and help you. Now everyday is a bad day. There is no one to help, needed work goes undone, stuffs breaks much much more often now. Look at the track dept, track is falling apart.

I think we should all gather for a circle "J**K", have a good cry and feel sorry for ourselves.
The big bad railroad is so mean to us and we're such great employees, please pass the wipes.

That was back when stiff drinks and other substances were allowed. Now all you get is a UP bottled water from the creeks of Flint, Michigan
