Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

We are at a critical junction

if we're not commuting we don't need to use our cars for work. that saves us money, but VZ can use that to negotiate lower pay and/or raises in future contactracts.
we're exposed to less work related risk, so they can justify reducing their insurance coverage for us.
I'm no contract expert, but if there are any benefits that can be used to assist in caring for kids or old folks, they can justify reducing or getting rid of them now that we can stay home.
when they decide to get rid of all the centers, we may not have a choice to come into the office of we'd prefer... this may be a one way street.
when we're at home, we'll have less interaction with each other and our union reps. we wouldn't be able to have spur of the moment gatherings to talk about things.... that can't go in our favor.
VZ could use it's computers inappropriately once they get them in our houses (they could be doing that right now).
this is all I can think of right now, but there's probably more.
a lot of this couldn't happen overnight, but they could be on the horizon. and what about future members? it's been proven we and the union will throw future members under the bus. that's never sat well with me. how far will we let that happen?
this list is just what I thought of off the top of my head.
I think we should be worried about these things.
it's a bad idea to focus on the things about WAH that we like without looking at the other side.
I think we should be very suspicious of those that try to take focus off the potential downsides especially when they have a proven, visible record of deception (Cheerleader Lyer I'm looking at you).
the union opposed WAH at first. there's a reason for that. they might see things we don't. they are in talks because we spoke up... that may have been. a bad idea.
we need to be very careful if how we go forward

I agree, there are issues with work from home. How do you train new hires? How does one hold a manager responsible? The pay, benefits, and such, that doesnt really get to me. I don’t believe that’s the main issue. “It’s the control the union has to prevent people from being stupid” Actual quote from a steward.

Though, I disagree with you, it’s finally comforting that someone is making a valid argument for the office. This “pro” office person who’s been flaming this forum sounds like a useful id--t, rather than a competent debater.

Personally, I don’t think the union is as incompetent as you make them out to be. I’ve seen them save jobs, negotiate better pay and benefits, act as therapists, get help for alcoholics/dr-g addicts, and much more. My life has changed since becoming a union member over 20 years ago, and it’s because of the union, I recognize that, as do most of us.

What the majority of us are asking for is another life changing moment, one the union has the power to enact. Work from home, for 95% of us, is a huge relief. No toxic work environment, no racist rants from ancient reps, no gossip. That’s just to name a few of the negatives that are no more. Better mental health which leads to better physical health. More time for family and friends. I’ve been able to see my son grow, my wife and I have gotten closer, and my community has grown. Why would we give that up?

The cheerleader, when rereading her posts, appears passionate, as do most people who want to continue work from home. I doubt it’s one person, the grammar and tone is different on most posts. Their argument has remained consistent, precise, and hopefully they’ll be part of the next contract negotiations.

I pray the union continues negotiating for our benefit, not theirs.
