I’ve heard that the PIP for NRE is a bit different. Could someone explain this process. Thank you in advance.

If you are NRE (53 or 54) you cannot be fired. It was 52-54, but they bumped it up by a year for this assessment cycle.
No it’s called harassment in the workplace of folks that gave their everything to the company. Young folks pay heed. This is the future. Don’t think it can’t happen to you like I did when I saw them harassing retirement eligible folks.
As always, it's not a pure process, it's full of politics. If handled deftly, it's a very useful tool to use for the group. An NRE can get thrown under the bus into NSI which will save someone else's @ss. The SLS can then have a human discussion about it explaining the circumstances and offer some tangible benefits around time off, preferred work assignments, status in group, etc. The FLS can then be told to hold the minimal amount of required meetings and fill out the paperwork with minimum embarrassment and effort from all parties. Not quite a win-win, but, for NRE who wants out asap anyway, it works.

Happy, wise Gandolf! Love it! Those were the guys and gals that helped me feel welcomed and coached as I was building my experience. The rest of us take note when they aren’t well treated.
@1qnv-If you don’t realize the value of an anonymous forum to ask these sorts of questions, you should leave. How many well respected older employees will go up to a work friend and say “Hey, I’m guessing you were PIPed. How does it work? I’m really worried about being PIPed too?” We are all just trying to keep our head held high in this situation.

So NREs don't get fired if they get PIP'd?
The NRE PIP strategy is to make damn certain that the day you hit 55 your boxes are packed, your vacation has been taken and your a-s is out the door and you are so HAPPY to be out of here that you are jumping for joy and could not care that you left 25% of your pension on the table.
I did one for my NRE employee and it was a joke. Met him every week to review how he was measuring up against a half-baked improvement plan, no repurcussions if not met.
They ask how we can get more efficient... Ending stupid cr-p like this is one of the ways.
All I want from my retirees is to come in a be the happy, wise Gandalf that loves his/her team and wants to impart their wisdom on the new generation. Now I have a disgruntled employee who was never previously ranked below middle third in his whole career. He is just ornery and unhelpful. Great job Exxon.
It’s called PCP instead… performance counseling program, severe warning, no firing.
They take out the “you’re fired if you fail” part.
