Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Those who wait to be laid off are loosers

Do not wait to be laid off, do not be a looser. Be proactive, search for a new job while you are still employed. If you are jobless the chances to land in a new good job are reduced by 90%. Get ready for complicated interviews, study and improve your skillset while you are still working from home.

I totally disagree with the advice below and I don't really like the tone of the OP that people are "losers". I've commented a couple times on these Dell threads.... Don't wait for the package. If you have something to offer in the marketplace, go for it and don't look back. After 21 years at Dell, I outgrew them. They did not outgrow me. They were not able to put me in a position to best help them make money and for me to grow my career. It was time to leave. It is really difficult to leave good people on your team and financial responsibilities you have with your family. I wrestled with this. But in my business brain, I knew it was time to fire Dell's Exec leadership and their reluctance to listen. Don't wait for a package. Take control and get to the job market before there is a flood of Dell resumes hitting the street. You are in a much better position to get your total compensation if you have a job. Good luck, and JMO.

You people are in make believe world and spoiled.

98% of jobs require real work and when these folks lose their job they get bare mimiual payout and state unemployment.

You people are crying about working a corporate gig and don't lie 98% of you employees are worthless (look at you reading this theard shouldn't you be working instead of looking a layoff site). maybe someday the severance package game will come to end game and no more peachy severance package.

A few things to comment on this pointless post. First, layoffs are a normal part of every big corporation. It has become part of the wallstreet driven business model. Using layoffs to adjust focus and to boost stock price. Second, there is absolutely nothing wrong with waiting for a layoff if you think you are targeted. You would be a fool to not consider the package that usually comes with the layoff to help you assess your current situation and prepare for your next move. Only fools judge others life choices related to this type of topic.

It is really odd to constantly have the fear of losing your job. I do not think that is normal. When exemplary employees get laid off, just a number, nothing to do with performance, it is quite shocking. So yes, everyone should be looking, you might be next. But what BS that instead of focusing on doing a great job people are worried about getting WFR’d. It is just wrong.

Recognize the signs of a pending layoff, bide your time, take the package. Watch so as not to give them cause for dismissal like discipline or performance.

Op is probably an HR troll encouraging resignations to save on severance package. I got sacked with 2 days notice. Took the package after 20 years service. Doing just fine.

The problem lies with Dell when so many have been conditioned to wait for a layoff based on what they see going on around them 2-3 times per year. So we should continually being studying for interviews and looking for a new job? Wow what a place to work at!!

Wait to be layed off! In my case it was a bolt out of the blue. Team doing well, hit all quotas, up to date with DTSU, just a standard 1:1 with my manager and bang your out.
