Thread regarding General Mills Inc. layoffs

HR communication today

First, my thoughts are with everyone. I’m “safe” but been incredibly emotional all day for my coworkers because this was NOT handled correctly.

Second, today’s “communication” was atrocious. A five minute video saying absolutely nothing then a three sentence email detailing your fate.

I was let go last week and there exit paperwork is so poorly done, to many loop holes. So I have hired a prominent Toronto lawyer to get what I am entitled to under Ontario Labour Standarda Act.
Don't let these people get you down. Get what you are deserved.

What a terrible way to get your status and a disheartening moment for those that remain.

So I was one of the unfortunate that was let go, last day is in July with many others. Sadly, it was handled with little tact and no empathy. I have a package that gets me through the year, but I am sad. I am also disappointed in general mills for being no different than other companies even though the say the care about people.

I was laid off (let's just call it what it is - none of that displaced or impacted BS) but am given an extended period of time to stay before severance goes into effect. Our whole entire team was let go, with the more junior people getting placed into other teams or orgs (without their input on their career goals, of course). This whole situation has left me wondering what GMI really is - this is not the place people talked so highly about to me when initially joining. My advice - if you're going to get hit with repeated layoffs (as GMI seems to have done every 2 years) then you may as well go work for Optum or Target where the pay is better (within context of WHQ).

I realize my position is certainly better than those that are set to leave in July and my sympathies go out to those people, hang tough and show GMI how much of a loss of talent this whole ordeal will cost them.

The entire process has been quite disappointing. While we've been provided numerous updates nothing new was ever said and was the same repackaged message. I'm sure you "did it the right way" but the lack of information, drawn out process, and not even having the courtesy of directly talking to people (could have been group meeting with your direct team) has been pretty terrible. And I still sit here not having an understanding of who was impacted nor what we should expect moving forward. Does anyone know anything?
