Bruh… who wants to learn Java? Old bloated and slow compared to what you can do with modern languages.

Actually, the reason we have new computer messes is that the young-timers didn't want to learn the existing stuff and wrote their own computer messes.

In their infinite wisdom they leave out the mainframes, despite them still being a large part of the mission critical base.

For example, I don't see any mainframe tie-ins in the Turbonomic stuff at all. Completely ignoring the MF space.

Or more correctly the mainframe z/OS and z/VM space. Linux, of course, can run on MF.

That email outage works for me… I do even less than usual… what dream job?

The oldsters have enough experience to realize when change is pointless and a waste of effort.

The youngsters don't have enough experience to have been through a few iterations of such wastes of time and energy.

The whole point of computing is to automate things... and let it do it's job... not constant churn that caters to the ADHD of the youngsters.

People who have used both at telling you, "Sametime worked better for my purposes" and you refuse to hear it.

No worries... every young generation does this, as does every old generation.

If folks have used both, and prefer Sametime... seems you're the one that's not paying attention.

The users and their use cases determine whether an app does what is needed or not.

The job of developers is to meet requirements... not dictate them.

If the users hate it... the devs have failed.

Slack is better than Notes because it lets Salesforce spy on internal operations at IBM and other companies.

Although, maybe you aren't on "real" Slack... maybe IBM skimped on features but paid more to license Slack, self-host it, and then tie it into email, fax and telex (Wulph!). Easy there drama queenie. F&O is on exchange. Not everyone is without email. All the important people still have email.

Also, my man… “can’t have a technical conversation on slack”… is your keyboard broken? Bruh, not sure how technical you are if u can’t figure out hot to type technical words on slack.

I have a pretty large network of IBM clients. Every single one has called or texted me asking about this email outage. I even had 2 recruiters on LinkedIn aggressively reach out to me asking if the situation with email has made me reconsider other opportunities outside IBM. LOL. IBM should be extremely concerned about the fallout from this. From just my limited perspective, it’s irrecoverable.

Slack is a total waste of time… people spend hours when not days reading what people say and adding their comments… it is slowly starting to be another Facebook but for business…

According to the blog post that was posted at the weekend, they have been planning this migration for 18 months, and provided everybody followed the instructions in their email the cutover should go just fine...

No it's not. Slack isn't even better than Sametime... there's no way to file conversations like we could with Sametime, let alone the way communications can be organized in Notes.

Slack ends up being a huge pile of conversations that can't be effectively found even a few days hence.

Slack is for chatting, not serious technical communication.

It was designed for small, tight nit development teams (as was Agile). A huge swath of IBM/kyndryl business has nothing to do with that model.

I'm sure there was no news ahead of time letting people know this was going down. The IBM way!

What is the underlying lesson here? IBM has enough executive managers involved in this project, that they dilute the consequences of a major goof up to business as usual (nothing to see just move on). Until executive managers are held publicly responsible for major goof ups don’t expect much change. The second lesson is the folks involved in this project didn’t see, or understand the business consequences of a commodity application (something everyone uses but expects to function properly) and it’s impact on IBM. Or as executive management would say BAU. AK would you contract for this kind of result? GTS and GBS (non-strategic) This is your future

Mail in all forms is still not working for thousands of us world wide, that means notes, verse and mobile. On W3 they finally put a banner in that there are email delays. Delays!! Its been a week for me where I have had issues. If I can get in I see notes but can't open then it locks up then when I get back in days are now missing. Not sure they will ever come back. Its quarter end!! If they can't even migrate mail how the heck are they going to spin off a whole company. I am so fearful as to how the kyndryl migration will go. Need to use my now free time to work on my resume.

Works for me… now I can do even less than I usually do!! What’s not to love about this IBM company?

Former IBMer here. Is this affecting world wide? I see little notices of this in the general media? Has mail actually been lost, or is it just a short temporary outage? What is the current status? Has services been restored? Who will buy services from such a provider?

Just in time for the end of the quarter!!

They should fire whoever is 1) responsible for the decision to not move everyone to outlook (or literally anything else but verse/notes), and 2) responsible for the migration.

The amount of money we must be losing to lower productivity at the end of a quarter. So d-mb.

Look at the bright side - maybe all our old emails will have been lost forever.

As for IBM and planning .. maybe they RAd the people responsible for implementing all this.

I never imagined IBM email could get worse. Like so many other things, IBM manage to make it worse.

Was zapNotes sold as well? That solution was a timesaver.
