Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

There is no logic when it comes to cuts?

I’m still safe, but I’ve heard that some people have been laid off for whom no one would have thought would be cut.

It is a numbers game and I think upper mgmt. has some input into who is let go, I don't believe it is all Towers Watson making the decision on who is let go. I was let go and yet shortly after there were a couple job postings in the department that I worked in. They are refining the skills they want and not willing to train and keep people. Yet after they eliminate your position they want you to watch the job board and apply to any postings you see fit - really - why would I forego the severance and extra weeks of pay till my final date.

Sorry it happened to you. I guess it makes sense to make the move first and start looking - there are many, many rounds yet to go. I do wonder what the inputs and weights are for TW's calculus though.

No, there isn't any logic based on employee's skills or contributions. It is all determined by a third party company, Towers Watson and is solely a numbers game. I know this because I was let go in February and then found out the details. I was a high performer with great reviews. If Schwab was smart, before eliminating each job, they would look at the skills and experience of each person to see where they could be utilized in the company. Instead, Towers Watson decides it based on number crunching, and then Schwab loses talented people that could have been effective elsewhere in the organization. Very pi-s poor planning and leadership.
