Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Target Salary Range restored??

Today, My boss handed me later saying my upper max # increased by 30%. We all know HR reduced upper number by 10% few months back companywide.

I wonder whether HR is restoring/increasing TSR companywide?? May be due to higher inflation?? Staff Retention??

Note: I am in CDO org under Jermey Legg.

I got 24% as a System Engineer Pr. I languished for years with 0-2.5% increases. Back at level 1 there were a couple years where I bumped up against the top and they gave me some kind of "special allocation" to make a 0.14% raise possible.

I'm happy of course, but my quibbles with the company remain and I see they continue to be well-documented both here and by some of the better trade journalists (like Karl Bode).

My job would probably not exist if the company could better coordinate between internal silos and get rid of redundant layers of controls. Government waste is a favorite target for some, but I can say from experience there's plenty of it in private enterprise, particularly in this company.

I'm not a noob, have 20 years here but sh---y raises makes my pay low compared to the market. Just glad they are finally doing something about it but in the back of my mind I'm wondering what the catch is.

Yes.

Didn’t you get a letter about the TSR change?

Yup, noobs basically got a 5-10 year instant raise. No different than vacation changes and walking in the door with same vacation as someone who worked here for 15+ years. Just shows they only care about the young employees. Not hating, it's been a good paycheck, but it stings a bit.

I do expect the continued poor raises (1-3%) going forward which is why I'm celebrating the 21% raise I got yesterday. Do you know how many years it would take to hit that salary with the average 2% raises?

That is the company's cheapskate mentality, huge claim on being competitive and paying people the minimum on the range. For those who are receiving the bump, I understand why you are happy about the raise. When next year comes around, it will be the same nickle and diming the merit 1-2%, and only for those who are perceived to to deserve it. Call me crazy, but don't expect any changes here.

@3juz+1c5J5MZN

The answer is that how competitive T is, by paying people the minimum of the range.

While people who got the bump are celebrating for the moment, what do you really think it is going happen next year? The company will continue nickle and dime merit raises at 1-2%, and only for those who are perceived as deserving. The cheapskate culture isn't going away anytime soon.

I’m grateful for the raise, because I haven’t had a cost of living increase in two years, but question why I was put at the minimum of the new range. If I was at the middle of the old range, why wasn’t I put at the middle of the new range?

@2mnd This is not old news because these are new changes effective 8/1.

For some subset of technical titles, TSRs (min and max) are being bumped up at least 10% from where they were set back in March. People falling below the new min TSR are getting a pay bump to the new min so those people are getting raises effective 8/1. There's also bigger bumps for high performers in those titles and I saw raises as high as 25%.

But these are limited to certain titles. It sounds like Software Engineer and Systems Engineer for sure were included. Project Manager and Business Manager were not included. Would be nice to hear what other titles were included.

Anyone saying they're a "Principal" level has nothing to do with this - it's all about the type of title. Principal Business Manager had no change, Principal Systems Engineer got a TSR bump.

Sad really. This isn't "new" news BTW. Many of the TCP and non-TCP titles were modified last year. Yes, the TSR ranges were narrowed, but the TSR max went up from some and way down for others. See examples below for titles in N1 zone (the lowest). N2 Zone for example would be locations like Dallas, Memphis, Atlanta, Charlotte, etc.

  1. Tech Business Analysis - TSR max reduced by $15,000-$20,000 across all IC steps
  2. Technical Process/Quality - TSR max reduced by $15,000-$20,000 across all IC steps
  3. Network Support - TSR max reduced by $15,000-$20,000 across all IC steps
  4. System Engineer - TSR max increased or stayed the same across all IC steps
  5. Software Engineer - TSR max increased or stayed the same across all IC steps
  6. Development Coach - TSR max increased by $10,000 (NON-TCP role)
  7. Mgr Construction & Engineering - TSR max reduced by $10,000 (NON-TCP role)

Just food for thought

Cannot understand why this action was not across the board

Uhm, because that would cost more? They only do this when they can't otherwise hire/retain competent staff.

If you stick around at your current salary then by definition you're not underpaid

"Are the 15+% salay raises bringing you closer to the midpoint of the new and revised TSR? "

No - if you were below the new minimum, if puts you at the new minimum.

It is a COBC violation to discuss pay treatment with other employees.

Federal law trumps anything written in the COBC. And federal law (specifically the NLRA 29 U.S.C. § 151–169), guarantees employees the right to discuss salary, wages, and working conditions.

Disagree? Feel free to file a lawsuit. You'll be eating it, and fast.

Can someone please explain....Yes, we heard about TSR ranges being widened but what does that have to do with a salary increase?? Is it being said here that in addition to TSR range growth folks also received a raise? I have not heard that from anyone/

I got the letter indicating a bump in the range but it means nothing unless you were at the max which nobody I know is. No current change in salary and it doesn't even necessarily mean one in the future either. Maybe if you were below the lower end you might have gotten something.
Would rather see them restore benefits than this.

This change is not applicable to all, if you were not notified via email you do not qualify. Just a reminder to those like myself that received this generous adjustment, this was supposed to be confidential. It is a COBC violation to discuss pay treatment with other employees. I guess im running a little scared, if everyone else hears about this, the company could revoke on the TSR adjustments.

22% here, time to celebrate, best raise ever. Now if I can just get my 5 PTO days returned I'll be happy. I take back every negative comment about T that I ever uttered. Maybe things are starting to change for the better. Time to increase my 401K contribution!

The TSR for the title of your direct report is still lower than yours in your Geo zone (N2, N3).

As you already know, N4 zone has very high cost of living. I like your spirit. Please keep up the good work.

This is not for everybody. I am in Jeremy Legg org. I am a level 2 supervisor, an associate director. I have two people that were impacted. It seems if you are systems engineer title or some development role you are getting these raises. Other roles are not. I hear from my director that for sure they are excluding project managers. So project managers and system admins get nothing. System engineers get big possible raises. one of my people got 18% raise, and the other 14%. This is not for everybody. They are not saying which roles are getting the raises in writing. My one guy who lives in an N4 area now makes more than me (I am his supervisor). I am happy for him.

OP here. I am L2 principal technical side. Yes. It seems TSR increases are in CDO to attract/ retain technical talent.

As other poster in CDO mentioned, CDO is having staffing problems where many good existing employees are leaving for better compensation at 'Tech' companies and not able to attract new qualified people with cutting edge tech experience.

Peanut butter changes in the TSR for all ranks shows you how lazy management really is. CDO must be bleeding like crazy to cause such a reaction. Never take what HR tells you on face value, do your research about job role, location, and pay. For those on the minimum, even with the bump, seriously think about how staying will impact your earning potential.

So the Stink, who knows more about everything than anyone, and his blondy ki$$ a$$ Santone, reversed themselves? I doubt it.

Perhaps HR is mounting a revolution? Or perhaps they finally found out that they cannot hire all the replacements for the retirees that Stink F * U C Ked over?

This makes no sense. Stink never reverses his stupidity. And T would always perfer to hire an unlimited number of Mumbia U grads for a buck an hour.

Please explain!

Did they also increase the -% bonus? Craziest thing ever, making less than your quoted salary once the negative percentage bonus is figured in. Can never actually make what they sat you make because almost no one gets 100% of their possible bonus. People in other companies look at me like I've got 3 heads when I try to explain that to them. They think the negative bonus salary quote is quite a scam..

Very happy they reversed their stance on compensation. Why they ever thought the reductions in TSR was a good idea we will never know. Santone needs to find another line of work, she keeps trying to sc--w the workforce at T. This is the first positive action that C-suite has taken in years!
