@2duu I'll bet that BEV engineering is going to get just as complicated as ICE. Look at an ICE motor & transmission before emissions & MPG requirements in the early 70's. Much less complexity than today. Then it all went to "a million" vacuum hoses in a couple of years (and associated gadgets they attach to) pretty quick. With current BEVs, look at how complicated the battery cooling system has become (see Munro teardowns of MachE on youtube) in the first generations of BEVs. Who would have thought it would require all this? I think there's going to be all sorts of useful stuff to design. And as long as people keep smashing up their cars, there's a ton of safety needs. They could also put a lot of those extra ICE engineers on fixing quality problems too, right? No shortage of those. The people who say BEVs are going to get so simple are like the guys who said computers only needed 2 megabytes or whatever it was. You can't do everything in software.

Those us that actually work at FMC are aware of the Virtual Job post put out a few weeks back. Most of the postings are for software related fields.

The fact of the matter is that as the company moves towards BEV's and AV's it will not need the engineering support levels it has today. My guess is that by 2030 this area of the company will be reduced by 60% while the emphasis will be put on software development.

You just don't need that many engineers and associated support functions to design and build electric cars.

@uyp+1cD0vZXg - it's only about cost and profit. Personally I think that the current ranks of upper management believe themselves to be more capable and have more saavy then those who tried offshoring to India (& Singapore) 20 years ago when it failed miserably. Typical hubris believing that those who came before weren't quite as competent or able.

As I recently told my father-in-law who retired from a long career in the auto industry, if things keep going the way management is pushing them Ford will be an Indian company owned by a family in America in a decade or so.

Well after reading this and the recent articles about Age discrimination, I can safely say I will no longer purchase a Ford produced vehicle. Respect and loyalty is a two-way street. If any of senior executive or HR person read this just remember the decisions you make will come to roost in the next 2-3 years. And if recent launces are a trend we will be out of business inside of 10years. Billy is in over his head. Look what he did back between 01-06. Allan saved the company. Billy was pretty much fired by his own family in the spring of 06. Every time he speaks the stock goes down. Case and point the train station! If it were not for his last name this guy is gone. Uses company money for his own legacy.

This is the expected outcome from cost and fueled by WFH.

They should physically cut Ford's Internet off from anywhere outside NA to prevent such behaviors. If a company is selling out American jobs, their international Internet access should be revoked.
