L!nked in - what’s going on?

Folks leaving posting - I can understand.

What’s up with the folks who are still with company, commenting and liking the posts?! Are they suggesting I am so good that I can wish people well and my boss would like that aspect of me?!

Also what about the others who are not leaving but posting with Cube? Are they so self-absorbed?

And then there are folks who keep posting their “new” skills - largely soft skills, or their new Useless MBA accolades

Our Sr leaders are now sucked into it as well, posting about our accomplishments and their embrace of diversity

Linkedin is the new Facebook - Agree??

@2rbh+1cD2ugim Sure you can be happy, but saying that in LinkedIn seems little trite, esp. over and over to people who are your second or third connections. Send a private message if you care so much, like what I do.

Are we supposed to say “aww so sweet”? We know why you do it. You want to shine some light somewhere where sun don’t shine

@1qvb+1cD2ugim is spot on. We’re notably bad at PR and always have been, so all the low effort/low quality content being generated by employees and managers just make things worse for the typical LinkedIn user (which these days is probably every office-based employee at EM).

I am an old Exxon guy here. For a company that valued being quiet and let your results speak for themselves, I am so shocked to see how many of the so called leaders being active in “social” media. Exxon clearly has lost its touch.
I am positive they have “communication” teams for Sr Leaders working on their LinkedIn posts. What a shame - and the small minions (15 years and 15 to go) follow suit of leaders at top.
Your advertisement is not helping. Stop spending time on LinkedIn and spend that time working on delivering projects and delivering cash.

You are delusional if you think LinkedIn posts will help with employee morale.

Nothing helps employee morale more than being part of a winning team. Patriots don’t go on a publicity tour to win, Gretzky didn’t win because he was good at PR. Get to work so called leaders. Stop this PR non-sense and use that time and money to take care of the people.

The more people use sites like LinkedIn and yammer and all of the other bs narcissistic social media to create fake fantasy lives on the less faith I have in humanity. Does anyone realize how shallow any of it is?

No it’s not. This is a green wishcast / myth told enough times people think it is factual. There was a dip with COVID obviously, but demand is back close to 100 MMbopd and climbing. FYI the US had the highest product demand ever on record in the EIA report this week, over 22 MMbopd.

The “transition” you refer to is like an airplane transitioning from flying to diving towards the ground. The “change needed” is a complete replacement of the top leadership, which of course is never going to happen, so the company is going to keep diving.

I've seen the negative ones (people quitting). With jet skies, etc.
I feel bad for XOM on the pr side. They are just going through a transition and this change is needed.

I’m glad that I’m not the only one who noticed that. I don’t go actively looking, but LinkedIn has placed some of these announcements in my feed because one of my contacts has liked or commented on them.

I assumed that HR had told managers to get some of their reports to make these posts. It’s strange that I’ve only seen them from women, but I was certainly surprised to see posts saying things like “Just celebrated my 15-year anniversary with EM. Excited to see what the next 15 will bring !”

That’s nauseating, tone deaf (considering the number of people being forced to leave), and probably unrealistic too. The best comment I saw came from someone in their 60’s who left EM back in the 2000’s. He just said: “Good luck with that”. My thoughts exactly !

Again, it's a popularity contest at XOM. If you're invisible, count yourself as PIP. People now use LinkedIn to be visible. However, it's true - it's so hilarious and shameful that some I see complete ridiculous courses at LinkedIn. Other companies are seeing those posts and they are quiet embarrassing to say the least.

The hype among those XOM suckers posting on LI is similar to the pyramid schemers. They get sucked into it and pull others to get sucked into it too just because they themselves got sucked into it and now need to suck the blood of others to survive.
