Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

Honestly, is the grass really greener elsewhere?

Everyone who's left talks of how everything is much better now, how they earn more, they finally got some relief, they don’t have to roll their eyes at the incompetent etc.
Sure, there’s a lot of better places than CHK, but is it just so ideal somewhere else?
I can't believe that everyone has found better jobs and that they have less work to do. That doesn't sound realistic to me at all.

I left not to long ago and I can say this. My base salary is about the same but my bonus is more and we actually have an LTI. 401k is the same as CHK now that they reduced it to 6% but we also have a 10% company match on stock purchases. So in the long run, the bonus structure is better than CHK was before they reduced it. The one thing that I don’t miss is the constant stress of wondering when the next layoff is going to be and the never ending negative atmosphere that was there. It was absolutely toxic and affected everyone’s mood and mental health. People began to hate their existence there and felt stuck because OKC’s job market is horrible. Others were stabbing each other in the back. Luckily that never happened to me, but I heard about plenty of others being scapegoated to save someone else’s job. I feel lucky that I got out in time. I hear most everyone there is completely miserable at this point. It’s really sad.

I didn’t think it would be greener until I was recruited out. I don’t work any overtime, paid 35% more in base salary, higher bonus, better insurance, healthier culture…

The grass is absolutely greener on the other side because the other companies fertilize and water their grass.

I’m significantly happier and healthier since leaving the company. Only regret is not doing it sooner.

I don’t think people really understand, you will be laid off at CHK. How soon? Depends on how quickly they can unload STX and the Rockies. You are nothing but a peon to the VPs. Sure, Doug and Frank are gone, but the other goons are still there burning money to hide their incompetence. It’s much easier to find a job when you have a job, than to wait for another 500+ employees to get cut to compete with.

Chesapeake is a straight trash on a stick place to work. I don't regret anything about leaving that company of self serving narcissistic id--ts. They have never actually been successful at anything, never will, and are the joke of the oil and gas industry. I don't know why I put up with it for so long. It was like leaving an abusive relationship- and that's not an exaggeration

The short answer to your question is “absolutely yes.”

It doesn’t sound realistic because you still believe the CHK culture is normal. It’s hard to see the truth when you’re living in the lies and me first culture. Sounds like you need to stay right where you are and don’t corrupt another company.

It has only got worse, especially in the Northern Division.

My experience at chk was straight up awful. This was three years ago, and I could only imagine things getting worse since then. Toxic workplace, backstabbing/sabotaging coworkers, leadership in perpetual CYA mode, constant threat of layoffs or bankruptcy.

In fact, when I'm having a bad day at my new job, I log on to this site to remember how good I actually have it.

I miss my fat CHK paycheck, but being honest I was being overpaid, just like everyone else.

The grass is certainly greener. I make less but I am so much happier now that I am away from the cesspool of d-bags, a-holes, and r-tards that run that place. There are still some good folks there but that population is shrinking.

Yes, there is life after CHK and if you find the right place life is much better. There are not so good place out there but the toxic coverup culture of CHK wears on your health and takes a toll on your family. Have worked other places and still have few friends at CHK but am much happier since I left the world of cover up leadership. If you hanging around until the next layoff hoping for a package you are making huge mistake, package days are long gone with your CEO and little general VPs. Good luck to you.
