Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

It is a good time to quit

I told a few coworkers I was ready to quit even without a new job lined up (I'm having issues with my manager that HR was no help at all with) and nearly everybody called me crazy. I'm confident that in the current labor market I'll be able to find something quickly (I have enough money saved even if it takes me a month or two) but people don't agree with me. My thinking is if I don't use this opportunity I'll be stuck here in a miserable situation forever. I'm willing to take the risk.

Take a week off and use that time to apply and interview. You are always more employable when you are already employed. The only reason to quit when you have nothing lined up is if it's really impacting your mental health. Short of that, just apply now like someone else suggested and then plan to take a week off after that so you can really focus on your interviews.

Why don't you apply to places while employed?
