Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

There aren't too many options out there

A former coworker who was laid off months ago is still looking for work. He did have a few good possibilities but it never went through the whole way. This has me worried. I wasn't too worried about being laid off because I thought finding a new job would be easy. Now that I've talked to him, that confidence is gone. Is it really that bad?

@bfwj+1cVqopD9 indeed you do. What's your advice for those over 55 who continually face ageism in their job hunting?

With remote work, companies now have a hiring pool of the entire country. It makes for stiff competition for each role.

Very hard to find work when you are near retirement age

Nothing is easy. You get out what you put in, job search or anything else.

IDK what role you're looking for, but everything I'm hearing from people squeezed out in Ann Arbor is that they're inundated with recruiters, interviews, and offers, and are trivially out-earning what they were getting at TR.

What a load of old tosh. This sounds like HR speaking. It is buoyant out there and I know many that have left and done better,

I have had several interviews abs offers. It’s the pay that is stopping me from accepting them. They aren’t bad offers just not enough more to take them.

There are plenty of roles out there. Best time to look for a job is when you have one.

I think it’s going to be tough to find a new job until more and more workers return to their offices. Do you really want to have to be trained remotely?
