Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Don't blame the wrong people

I often hear so much hate over the hiring of young, inexperienced employees but that's not always a bad thing. Sometimes a fresh perspective is a good thing, especially in a company that is so stuck in the old ways. The fact they are willing to work for much lower pay than they should is today's economy's fault, not theirs. Don't blame the wrong people for the state of the company. Blame those on the top.

"I have a degree in Art History, don't talk to me about DTU Vs DSA Vs NPARC, I just want it done"

Reminds me of working at IBM.

What an odd post. What you are referring to sounds good on paper. When you have an account executive on a Webex saying "I have a degree in Art History, don't talk to me about DTU Vs DSA Vs NPARC, I just want it done" Now that's a fresh perspective!

The problem is not hiring young, inexperienced employees. The problem is hiring too many of them and using them to replace experienced staff to reduce costs. Lets be clear, they are not being hired to provide a fresh perspective. They are being hired because they can be acquired on the cheap, replacing experienced, highly-competent employees, to improve shrinking margins due to falling demand.

That's funny, the idea by the OP that 'fresh perspectives' only come from inexperienced new hires.
