Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Making the transition from engineer to retirement

I retired early and unexpectedly and didn't make any plans. Not having to do math in my head everyday, keep equations in mind, and be technical lead and planner on large complicated programs left me happy but kind of dissolutioned.

To make the transition I bought a how to design and install metal roofing dvd. After spending 6 months learning, generating a scale drawing of the metal roofing, generating detailed parts list, talking to suppliers, I built a beautiful metal roof on my home. I flew my brother in from Ohio to help me with the heavy lifting for 5 days. Neighbor's were in see and often stopped to watch the progress.

What have others done in this situation?

First, I'm going to catalog all the stationary that I collected over the years and put it up on Ebay. Then I'm going to sort through the 4-5 phone systems we changed out over the last few years due to corporate integrations (luckily I save most of them in boxes).

you have to be kidding dude. get a life. honeyhell brought out the worst of what we are. neat technolody guiding bo--s to undoubtedly humans that were only trying to level the playing field. The human condition is ugly. We are he-l bent on destroying each other because we do not look like one another, believe in what we think are the religions guiding us to heaven or whatever we believe is waiting for us after we expire. In the end it does not really matter. The greatest most dominant creature in the history of the world was the dinosaur who after 69 million years succeeded to the little mammals who survived the comet strike that restarted the cycle of succession. And mankind is he-l bent of self destruction. Honeywell is just one company that supports the end of mankind.

Are you kidding me. Missing the drone of what Honeywell choose to call engineering. Look around you folks at what other are other companies have done is this day of Covid. Saving lives and mankind with great technologies that do not involve guiding smart bo--s, guides missiles, drones that strike at our so called enemies. So we made a few masks to soothe the great Orange One. Suck it up and leave this piece of shxxxxt. You will be a better human being for leaving this sad excuse for a company who has only the best of their employees in the end of what they do.

You guys are ambitious! I'm so lazy sometimes I hire a driver to take me places because I don't like driving in heavy traffic. Found out he also does handyman work.

I just paid him $100 to replace my garbage disposal and kitchen faucet (had all the parts). He would have done it for less but why not spread the wealth. Plus it's back breaking work under the sink. It only took him an hour.

Day 1 early retirement. Not financially ready but oh well. Moving closer to my kids to enjoy my time with them. Maybe a part time job to pay the bills

Amateur radio license. back to school. Take geology and use it in our local mountains. Lots of surprises in the mountains here in Phoenix, even more outside, plenty of wildlife and spectacular scenery. Keeps you in shape.

I’m building a woodshed from trees on our property. I miss the people, but not the job one bit.

Not retired yet, but my plan is to build a house on 5 acres I bought a few decades ago. Adjacent lot just ran under ground electric past my lot.

It's a challenge to figure out what to do with yourself in retirement.
I'll be going to the World Series of Poker in three weeks.
