Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

This is a good place to work

It saddens me to see that some people are unhappy at Ascension. To me, this is still a great place to work. I understand that not everybody will have the same experience, but I think some people are exaggerating when painting this as a horrible workplace. Yes, it has its advantages and flaws, but which company doesn't? My advice for those who are unhappy is to leave. You shouldn't spend a third of your day feeling miserable.

Appreciate the 2cents, Ederola. As long as you are here, can you disclose which companies you own stock in? Or any other vested interests of yours? Not that anything like that would sway your business decisions, just curious. Thanks babe!

What is wrong with you??? This is a site for people being LAID OFF - but nice job rubbing it in.

And no. It is not a great place to work. It is a cold hearted corporation. No matter how long someone has worked at Ascension. No matter how well someone does their job.... Ascension does NOT care. And they will be laid off and outsourced as the bottom line requires... and Ascension's bottom line right now???... It is NOT good. The org is struggling and margins are small.

But thanks for your id--tic post. You're a real gem.

Don't troll a response... perhaps responder DID find a love for working for them, but YES, most of us responders WERE under the influence of being let go from a company that they may or may have not worked for for dozens of years. This is not a family-owned org, this is a corporation nowadays, sadly not like it used to be 20+ years ago. We miss working for them. Unless we jump ship, we should IMO be the better to look forward to either finding another company looking for "experienced" employees, or finding work for ourselves, which personally, to me is the better expectation.

I'm sorry, but this was just an id--tic post and completely inappropriate for this forum. People who have been laid off and are trying to figure out what they are going to do don't want to hear about how great a place Ascension is to work.

Both Gerry and Jerry Lewis have a lot in common. High opinions of themselves, arrogant, talk down to people, and promoted above their ability.

Agree with the post that it is sad and there are still some good and kind people there. But most high level executives...Eduardo for example...come from the hardcore corporate world. It is about the bottom line...regardless of the patient care.

My first manager was an absolute di----t who couldn’t manage and documented me poorly in reviews.

He left and I will say there has certainly been toxicity but I did not feel disrespected or scared of management. That comes with me and my own career experience.

No one above me will talk down to me.

However I had a meeting where a particular individual that had been berated by GerryLewis and could tell they were just lashing out on us. Maybe this is now when I start to see the toxic environment others are or have seen

Even before layoff, I experienced unspeakable unprofessional conduct from Ascension individuals in power so I was already planning my escape beforehand. I found the Ascension workplace to be unsafe, poorly-managed, and shockingly dishonest. Turnover was rampant — even among executives. When hired, colleagues immediately warned me never to disagree with any Ascension “leader” in a position of power or attempt to challenge their misconduct as they routinely evade accountability. I found my office in a state of shameful disrepair. No telephone service. Unbearable heat due to malfunction of the air handling system. Unsanitary restroom conditions. And, of course, many colleagues surrendered to apathy. They believed “there’s nothing we can do to fix these items so let’s just endure them cheerfully — after all — we’re all desperate for a paycheck.”

Turned out layoff was a major blessing for me (although I faced great uncertainty for a time). Now: More money! Far more safe, professional work environment! Colleagues who don’t have to cower in fear and yelp like scalded dogs!

As they say, absolute power corrupts absolutely in authoritarian work environments. Yes, if you suspect something is terribly, terribly wrong at your Ascension workplace, leave. You won’t regret it. Of course, given the turnover rate at Ascension, chances are pretty good you’ll be leaving anyway — sooner or later.

I’m guessing you’re not getting the point that a lot of these people were laid off.
