Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Interesting TAP Town hall today

Curious that they are striving to be "open and honest" at this point. Wonder how they expect anyone to believe anything they say when there's literally an article from earlier this year implying there would be no coming layoffs:

https://www.thebaron.info/news/article/2021/02/23/thomson-reuters-reshapes-for-post-pandemic-world

"It aims to cut annual operating expenses by $600 million through eliminating duplicate functions and consolidating technology, as well as through attrition and shrinking its real estate footprint. The cost cuts do not involve layoff programmes and divestitures, the company said."

So the layoffs are to attributed to a different cause, possibly "to support the customer" as stated in the meeting, but I guess that allows for misleading statements like this to be made. Just a PSA to not put a lot of value into what's being said if you're a part of the US staff.

Intuit is smiling as TR hires the “leadership” they off boarded in their change program over the last five years or so. Throw in a Wrong (sic) hire from Facebook and it’s a recipe for disaster. When tax returns can’t be filed with agencies until late February and the customer success representative thinks a 1065 is a discount code for an app, those in charge will shake their heads and consider adding a thumbs down icon to existing products.

Committed to Ann Arbor because they own it. Ya think there is a market for big bldg when many companies are going virtual to save money?? Oh and the layoffs were NOT a cost cutting measure -- ummm right yeah. We're all drinking that kool-aid. Yep it is on the auction block. Why else would they put in a "plan" to dump tech workers without already having started ramping up hires overseas. They are pushing to have the ADO boards support their "plan" is working. Do NOT put anything on the board that does not have capacity to get done. How the he-l will they know what isn't getting done. Oh right they don't care just show those stats to prospective buyers. My sympathies not only to employees who created kick-a-s products but also the product users and future buyer. They know not what is coming.

I got drunk when I listened to the recording, doing a shot for each time “thank you to each of you for what you do every day” and “honest transparency” were said. Domain knowledge has been exchanged to build the SH-T (SH International Trophy of course) by KR and her Crusaders.

SH stumbled on a couple questions about layoffs that were posed by some brave employees. Nice spin but no one was buying it. He did say TR is committed to TAP and Ann Arbor without really elaborating. He didn't say TR is committed to not laying off any more employees.

Wow, we are doing so well. Look at how awesome our stock price is. You all should be happy the stock price is so high. /s

So those who are leaving due to attrition (leaving for better wages, less stress, better work/life balance, whatever) is all part of the script.

Work me to the bone until they leave.

Of course not that's in addition to the cost cuts.
