Or are they just happy to see them leave without having to pay them severance a month or two down the line because they're too expensive for them anyhow? For the majority of companies the answer would be "yes, they care and they're doing everything they can to reverse the exodus." With Nike? It's the second option.

Yes and no. We are here this week getting paid while offices are shut down, the Friday’s of in July, and the remote options that are forthcoming. These are all retention plays, and I’m sure there will be others. With that said, JD is massively changing this company. The structure, the culture, and the values. He/they absolutely anticipated and likely planned for high turnover over the next 1-2 years during this organizational pivot.
At the end of the day, we are all replaceable; every single one us. People leave; people get replaced. The thing to remember is Nike (as an employer) is replaceable too. You are not stuck here. If you are unhappy and are not on board with the future direction, do something about it!

What you're witnessing is the establishment of a caste system at Nike, where above a certain level you only get in if you're friends or family of people already in the "club". You don't really have to do anything - you won! - but gorge at the money trough until your buddy or family member at another company invites you to the same club over there. The rest of you are window dressing because Nike still has to appear to be a real company. Some of you are good at things, I dunno making shoes or something, while others are there simply to get laid off at the end of the quarter so Wall St. can boost the stock a little more.
They want resignations by design.... They have an army of workers from Banglaore to fill your spot. Google " workers in Banglaore" You'll see TONS of agencies that staff Indians for many of Nike jobs. Why pay an American worker 60-100k when someone in India can do it for 40k or less. " Global partners" Globalism at its finest.
The only people who stay at Nike in Beaverton are native Oregonians with ties to the area or E band executives. Everyone else is broke and lives in apartment " roommates" with no prospect of owning a home in the area.
