AMD's market cap just overtook IBM's!

A heck of job, GR and AK! Why not go hide in a ho-e to enjoy your ill-gotten millions of loot!

Now this is the right way to run a company, and get paid handsomely.

Look up Value Stock vs. Growth Stock. None of these other companies people rave about give nearly as big a dividend as IBM does -- now is this the smart thing to do? Probably not anymore, which is why they're splitting and trying (emphasis on the trying part) to return to being a growth stock. People always tend to forget that stock pays out dividends as well. I would wager a guess that 90% of IBM stock holders hold it for that dividend and don't expect much from the market cap - though it'd sure be great to have both.

@yem+1cxTLZDt - I'm not sure. IBM's market cap has hovered between $112B - $136 since Jan 1 2021 (see https://ycharts.com/companies/IBM/market_cap)

Split hasn't officially occurred yet, so it's anyone's guess what happens post-split. Well, not a _complete_ guess. Market cap is the share price x number of shares sold, right? Kyndryl operates as its own company and doesn't start off taking a portion of IBM's stocks. So, that "stocks sold" remains fairly constant for IBM.

The BIG variable is what happens to IBM's stock _price_ after the split occurs? If the stock price drops, so does its market cap.

@vrp+1cxTLZDt So 124B is before kyndryl split right?
I wonder what will it be after the split. < 100Bil ?

IBM's current market cap, btw, is about $124B

That's about $27B short of the smallest tech companies on that chart: Qualcomm and SAP, each at $151B

Let's see how much the companies differ:

AMD has vision, roadmap, focus, highly-paid top talent, and execution.

And how much they are alike:

IBM company name has three letters just like AMD.

Even Ross, chain of stores selling off-season clothing, is worth $46B. Wall Street really believes ibm is dead money.

No sh-t. https://www.visualcapitalist.com/the-biggest-companies-in-the-world-in-2021/

Tech heavyweights have over $1T market cap. Any respectable technology company should be around $250B (Cisco, Oracle). Even TCS has more market cap than ibm's. What a shame.

And AMD's CEO, Lisa Su, was a former IBMer no less!
