Career High and Low point

What were the best and worst years of your CVX career?

My high was 2005. Great boss, great team, great location, successful projects, recognition from high levels, promotion.

Low was maybe 2018. Horrific boss. Terrible, disastrous projects. Idyotic coworkers. Insane partner company. No direction whatsoever from exec mgmt - totally passive morrrons..

Troublemakers and complainers tend to be in the 3 category in my experience. It is not retaliation if they disrupt business.

I'd have to say a low point was a few years ago when I witnessed a co-worker and friend get into a severe disagreement with their boss, get mis-treated, report it to HR, then get a retaliatory "3" ranking, and no help from HR or the Ombudsman. Don't ever, ever think those people are on your side.

Retired last year. Outside of technical accomplishments, I'd have to say a high point was when JG (the elder) announced the the severance package was going to be 3-for-1 instead of 2-for-1. That was icing on the cake, I was going to retire in 2020 anyways!

Who is at their high point today? MW? MH? Anyone else?

High Point: Having the top suite executive bathroom all to myself on my 9/80 Friday with nobody else on the floor. You don’t know what peace and tranquility is until you spend an hour on the C-Suite gold plated toilet after eating a large and satisfying Mexican lunch.
Low Point: The rest of the weekdays in the office.

The highs: When JW was CEO and JL was HR VP. Things got bad when MW and RM took over.

no question the best days are behind us. Conferences, field trips, international travel, language lessons christmas parties, recognition functions, leaders who cared......... this is all now all in the past. Today it's do more with less, no raises, fake recognition, no perks and all with leaders who are focussed only on themselves. If you are young enough to change industry's do it.

I have been fortunate to be in groups with strong and fair leadership for the past 15 years. My issue is how they cut too many positions which has impacted those left behind. In spite of good leadership I see lots of burnout with very little light at the end of the tunnel. This will result in more good people leaving.

For those who have been laid off or do you just like posting unrelated topics or not have any other social media outlet or real friends?

Low point - when I moved to HR to support a project. Unfortunately, my manager was nothing but ruthless, short-tempered,, and all-knowing.

High points- prior to and after my HR project assignment.
