Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Feeling stuck and depressed

Also a bit shocked. A colleague (50+) told me that he has been trying to get out of here for a year now. I haven't reached 50 yet, but I'm not much younger and I've been looking for a job for over 3 months, so his story demoralized me a bit. I hope I won't be looking for a job for months to come. Is it really so hard to find a job when you get to that age?

So you have a 35 year old SVP who basically just does what The Godfather of SAGD tells him to and only ever seen or touched a SAGD well. He knows nothing else. They’re paying millions to have him coached so he does sound like pompous fool everytime he opens his mouth. Now he just sounds patronizing and condescending. And behold our future COO. Just terrific eh!

CVE tried to fix their leadership problems by throwing $millions at training from 2015 - 2017. Many leaders were even worse afterwards. Huge egos and arrogance got in the way of learning new skills. Most senior leaders that have been at CVE from the beginning are there because they are incompetent and Encana did not want them.

@3lts+1d0jgTt3 - isn't it amazing the culture with millions of dollars worth of leadership training!
Just imagine if the economy hadn't cratered and everyone got the lessons.

@3lts+1d0jgTt3 Welcome to Cenovus. All it is is back stabbers and people who bad mouth everyone behind their backs. Thank the management for breading this culture. Especially the field managers at CL

Funny how there are no LHSE staff trash talking their new teammates, generally a classier bunch I guess, although I’m sure it’s just a couple of cynical insecure bullies who are on this site badmouthing all things Husky. Both companies had good smart capable staff and this merger and the changes that resulted from it are hard for everyone. The morale and work environment would be so much better if everyone showed some empathy and compassion for their new teammates instead of back stabbing each other and making derogatory comments about processes and systems. This negativity creates such a toxic environment that is detrimental to everyone. Just stop trashing your team mates, especially the trolls in the Edson office that like to spout off on this site.

Lots of companies are expanding and hiring. I just talked with my friend at an oil company next door and they are going to be looking for people and plan on hiring from CVE. Everyone knows the moral at cenovus is at rock bottom and they are going to take advantage of that. A lot of companies hired the ones that were let go in march and are using them to contact good CVE people who want to leave

I know a few people who were laid off in march. All have jobs now are are a lot happier. There are a lot of jobs out there. If you cant find one maybe you are just being too picky or need to redo your resume. It depends on what field you are in but I was just talking with NES and they are going to be looking to fill 100 operating jobs in the next couple of months. NES is always look for people.
