Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

How

His many times in Wells Fargo’s history has the CEO said, “We are challenged with finding African American talent” AND not been fired for saying such a thing?

It’s 1850 folks.

Accuse someone a racist is a serious thing. Don’t do it for your own agenda. As a minority I don’t care for that. Funny thing is I find that those who are so quickly pointing finger at others are not any better. They can be a racist themselves if not even worse. Seeing faults in others is easy!

You nailed it! Charlie doesn't have an adequate pool from which to draw suitable candidates. Does Charlie want to? That is a separate question. But I don't assume racism in people. That is shallow. Then again, my opinion of Charlie is not relevant here.

Would OP be happier if Charles and the other execs weren't even bothering to try?

Just hire the best person for the job, every time, and you'll have a diverse company.

13% of the population but only a small percentage of that are competent to work for a large company. No amount of government program or handout will fix that when the ‘culture’ is absentee fathers.

Just another example of someone not ready for the big time.

Can you imagine any other CEO making such a statement? Really? Name one scenario where a CEO doesn’t get fired for such insensitive rhetoric.

He’s still here because they find anyone else.

Charlie only cares about MONEY in his pocket. All lies, lies and more lies

Both things can be true. Wanting to hire black males, but finding that the percentage available for hire is small.

@rsw+1d2xcyx9. Then don’t accuse him
being a racist when he said the truth that he has a hard time finding minorities with the right talents. You whiners would fire Charlie if he even sneezes if you could. Grow up!

Yes, we will complain if a new hire is not qualify regardless of anything. Just because a person if if certain background doesn’t mean that person is the best fit.

And yet if Charlie hires minorities people will
complaint that they are not qualified and they are hired only because of their skin color..

Several large businesses -- especially tech companies -- have commented on the same challenge. OP, what's your point?

Coming from a EE background in college, minorities are really minorities in some tech fields. Out of nearly a thousand EE majors, maybe a dozen or two were minorities or women. IT is different to some extent, but in my career spanning a few decades there have not been a ton of black or hispanic backgrounds colleagues -- oddly enough I worked with or for people with those backgrounds in several positions I've held.

That said -- if you want a diverse slate of candidates, you make an effort to recruit from places to find them.

Charlie spoke the truth. African Americans are just not into tech. I am a minority. We are not always victims and we are not that agile that we can handle the truth. True racists are out there and plenty of them but Charlie in in case is not. Don’t make a big deal out of nothing just because you don’t like him. Who knows, are you sure you are not a racist?
