Who is working successfully in an exotic location far from home and office? I know a lady who left her Houston apt and is working from Scotland. She is up late, obviously. I heard about some San Ramon people who have Maui condos. Others?

So you love to be able to "look like you're working" without actually working. What's completely absurd is that the latest generation always think that they have come up with a novel idea, and/or that everyone else, including peers and management believe the charade because they coin and abuse adolescent phrases like "work-life balance".
Is there a way to be always available online via iPhone? I’d love to work from places other than home without laptop.
I know a consulting petrotech who has been working from home, mostly for Chevron, from all over the world for about a dozen years. Great talent speaks for itself!

My spouse and I have been camping in various Texas state parks for months now. I log in via my phone's internet for a couple hours a day for meetings so everyone knows I'm "working", sometimes while fishing on the lake. I never heard of these 'spot checks', but if one came up, I could drive back to Houston and look engaged.
The only tax issue is the Brazilians may find out and tax your income since you are working in Brazil. If you are not a US citizen you may not have to pay US income tax.
My office location is in Houston but I work out of Sao Paulo. I am two hours ahead of Houston time and not had any issue with meeting my obligations. I have discussed with my boss and she said she did not have a problem with it as long as I got my work done. She also advised that I should not consider this a permanent deal as when the time comes to be back in the office, I am require to be there. Several people bring up the tax issue but I truly don't think it is a big deal.
