Making progress at Sam's

"Is it foolish to expect progress and is it hard to progress at Sam’s?" - That’s what a new employee asked me and I didn’t know what the best answer would be.
The person is very young, talented and hardworking, this is her first work experience and she enjoys working here (believe it or not). I personally have never had the aspirations to progress here, but to stay here for a while and go elsewhere, like most of us, so the question surprised me a little.

I worked at Sam’s Club 27 yrs and then retired. Was a job I Truly enjoyed. You get what you put in it. Corporations changed constantly to keep up with the times. Not everyone is a good fit for the jobs they are in. Keeping a positive attitude will help you go up if that’s what you want. When you don’t agree with something sit down with your leader and go up from there. Important to keep professional.

I agree with everything said except team leads stepping up. At our club they stand around ready to pounce or scheme about how to rid of those that arent their "type".

I’ve been with the company 2 and a half years and started when I was 18 fresh out of high school. I had the same thoughts as the person you’re talking about. But after everything the last year and a half with the pandemic and watching my team lead work 13 days straight to cover for people who call out constantly, go on leave, etc. I’ve decided I definitely don’t want to progress at this company. I plan on going to a trade school next fall and leave this company altogether.
