Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T Breakup

I can see AT&T following the GE model and breaking itself up into wireless, wireline and wholesale. This would unlock some value for stockholders and hopefully get rid of the inept management. As long as Stankey and his staff remain in charge there will continue to be a loss in shareholder value!!

Countless reorganizations and layoffs will not add any appreciable value or economies of scale.

" I assure you every wireless customer would suddenly have very expensive bricks on them if wireline went away."

You do understand that while we do have a national wireless footprint, we DO NOT have an national wireline footprint. Don't you? There are plenty of other solutions that we use for backhauling that wireless traffic both in and out of franchise. Nearly all of which are better than our wireline folks are at it. Working in wireless, everyone knows that we are the slowest and most expensive to get backhaul in place. You'd think when it's our own company we'd have a leg up, be able to expedite things quickly in order to get a critical site on the air. You'd be 100% incorrect.

Not talking functionality. Financials are the point, wireless brings in more revenue by far. Don't worry, I agree, T won't be split up into three sepate companies.

No way. The only division making coin is wireless. Doubt if wireline or fiber could support themselves.

I assure you every wireless customer would suddenly have very expensive bricks on them if wireline went away. You do sound like you have the makings of a previous CEO though. Stephenson thought all wireless communications, in his own words, "just jump from tower to tower without need of cable"..{citation :@bid+1dJk8trK) Yes that Randy the f-kking accountant.

Once TW is gone AT&T will be back to it's core business, with plenty of expertise to execute on it's goals. No reason to split the company any more, we got people lined up every month sending money.

OP: you’re correct. Claiming that by ‘doing x’ will increase value in simply blowing hot air. These people have no clue what they’re talking about.

They should have never been combined, wireline, wireless, entertainment and all completely different businesses with different skillsets.

They need to be separate businesses to allow each to flourish and grow.

The wireline is the foundation, all of these businesses and deriatives depend on wireline for data and communications transfer. Stephenson thought all wireless communications, in his own words, "just jump from tower to tower without need of cable".. THAT was one id10t nerd accountant and his desire to be the "grand poobah" (Flintstones reference) is what hurt this company.

Usually there is only a split because there are so many talented exec's and they need to split so they can have more presidents and ceo's and cfo's...

This is NOT the case now, but, entertainment and wireless and wireline should have never been combined and it's never too early to start fixing what is broken.

It's easy to say "doing X would unlock value", while producing Jack Squat to substantiate the claim

Isn’t it logical that fewer employees and a streamed down product portfolio would require less real estate and associated operating costs? Asking for a friend….

Keep your cones out, your reflective safety vest on, and a fresh battery in your FVD and all of your boosters up to date. Make sure your first aid ointment isn't expired.
Every little thing is going to be copacetic.

Sale leaseback of real estate is not going to fix the systemic problem of incompetence!

Already in the works to some degree. T real estate is on the sales block to then be leased back. A sign that operating costs need to be reduced significantly in order to be competitive in the wireless arena. A whole lot of changes to be expected next year!

With the sale of TW and DTV it has already started. Stankey is trying to fix AT&T with outdated solutions. He brings in people, pays them a phenomenal amount of money then undercuts them. With the massive debt load it will take AT&T at least 5 years to dig out the ho-e Stephenson and Stankey put the company in.

The company is walking a tightrope to service its debt, pay the dividend, build out fiber and expand 5G.

Wireless has to be separated if its going to have any chance to compete or survive. Wireless needs a new start with non AT&T management!
