I think lying to the employees has become the basis of the management- employee relations. As sad as it is, we see more and more of it as each day passes.
My boss verbally promised me that I would get a promotion 4 years ago. Now that 4 years have passed, not only that the promotion is nowhere in sight, that same boss is making constant complaints about the quality of my work. The ways in which I do my work have not changed during the years and I took more and more amounts of it in hope to live up to the promised promotion. How is it possible that I was considered a valuable employee back then and now I’m the prime candidate at my group to be shown the door.
I get that they want me out, but the sick ways in which they’re doing it disgust me.

That's oil for you. Most lie to their employees
Unfortunately this is very true. The even sadder thing is that it's the same at other companies. I've seen it first hand.
Yep @1nue
First they promise you that you will easily get a promotion if you work hard enough, then you realize they are just taking advantage of you because it will NEVER be enough, and then they don't need you anymore. That's how everything works here.
Unless you're a brown noser.
If you only say what they want to hear, then you don't have to work hard at all, or make an effort, you will be promoted. I’m not even trying to get a promotion anymore, but I’m trying to get out of here.
They're preparing the field to put you on PIP. I've seen it happen before with good employees. Out of nowhere, they start getting complaints about the quality of their work. The next thing you know, they've been put on PIP and are usually gone within a month or two because they refuse to participate in the charade. These are all good employees who have no trouble finding another job, which tells you enough about the decisions that are being made by those in charge.
