Thread regarding ExxonMobil Singapore layoffs

XOM is only a shadow of its former self.

I quit my job at XOM about six months ago. Since then I have landed a job at a competing company. I don’t mean to preach to anyone but I feel that I have a more realistic view now, watching how things unfold from a “safe distance”,after many years of being employees at XOM. To be honest I still have a couple of friends working there so I find it a little personal.
Being employed at XOM was once a synonym for a stable and a good paying job with a great prospect for advancing and building a career. Now being employed there only means being constantly scared of layoff and being unable to advance. People tend to think that this is a temporary situation and that it will eventually get better. But years are passing and things are not changing. I encourage anyone to hit the job market and look at other opportunities. Don’t let the the company name that once meant something in this business keep you from living the life that you deserve and having a job at a company where your skills are appreciated.

To admit that you're wasting your precious years at XOM is a bitter pill to swallow for many

@1ndk+1dPiqy5P I agree with you to a degree. It is very hard and scary to just leave a job. However, let's be honest for a second. How many of us are actively looking for a job while still employees at Exxon. How many of us updated our resumes. I figure less then a few. You can't win the jackpot unless you buy the tickets.

We deserve better but it's easier said than done to just turn your back on this job. Many of us still need it.
