Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Did they overdo it with cuts?

I mean, it may not be the same situation everywhere but my team is understaffed. Considering all those who are determined more than ever to find a better opportunity, and all those who have already done so, it seems to me that this company is overdoing it with cuts. It is much easier to find a job now and those who leave do not want to return, so I am afraid that CVE will shoot itself in the leg.

They completely blew it and cut excellent, high performing staff they should have kept. They cut way too deep and now with strong commodity prices they have increased budgets and don’t have the staff to do the work. Not only that, but now they have cut bonus targets for employees working even harder and longer hours to do the work. It’s not sustainable!!!

Save $1 by cutting staff and lose $5 in moral, lost motivation, lower productivity, destroyed culture, lost talent and related quality decision making, employee goodwill, and the added costs to hire and train to backfill.

Then if your Cenovus, do layoffs every year for the last 6 years and see where that gets you.

I still enjoy working for Cenovus. Cuts went way to deep though.Now we are seeing staffing issues. I got used to maybe or maybe not having a job next week. People are tired of uncertainty. If an opportunity arises coworkers exit. Stress on fellow co workers over layoffs down sizing and covid have been hard on people. Everyone is just trying to make a living.

They could easily cut another 1500 and still be ok.... A lot off Husky dead weight!!
