Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Unreasonable manager

I'm getting sick and tired of my manager expecting things from me that are not doable in the timeframe he expects them to be done. Not to mention, half the time those are the things that have very little to do with my actual job. I wish I could have him do my job for just a day to see how plausible some of his requests are.

"I'm guessing the original post is from a millennial. Reality check: in 45 years working with most every major IT vendor, I NEVER have seen a case where requirements were too short and deadlines too long. If you are unable to deliver the extremely difficult in two weeks and the impossible in three, you will not survive a vendor environment. Seek out opportunities in COBOL payroll programming. You will be happier. "

What does being or not being a "millenial" have to do with Teradata not believing in PLANNING PROJECTS and giving unreasonable deadlines?

I have worked in MY FIELD for close to 18 years, with successful companies and unsuccessful ones. The successful ones PLAN and LISTEN to what their technical people are telling them. The failing ones try to execute tasks in parallel that are supposed to be done serially.

Take a guess which one TD is.

I'm looking for a new job, but also hoping to get laid off so I have more time to prep.

Sounds like a bully manager so man up and stand up to him. You don’t have to take bs from people. If he fires you he will be doing you a favor.

Not sure what the complete situation is for you, but I even see a lot of management in the same position. Have you talked with them at all about this? Maybe ways to improve what is going on?

Management does not care. They are all thinking short-term since they know long-term survival for TDC is not feasible.

That’s rich, both responses are literally the two things that can get you laid off here- “Discuss with Mgmt or HR”. Rules of working at TD: Don’t talk to HR, don’t talk to Ethics, keep your head down, don’t stand up for yourself. And by the end, you’re either broken, stressed, unhealthy or burned out. OP I’m sorry you’re suffering, your story isn’t new, you’re not alone. Most Ethical Company my a-s.
