Thread regarding Comcast layoffs

Layoffs coming?

Some moves being made by upper management seem to indicate a layoff is coming, has anyone heard anything?

Comcast is going through a huge change. At the beginning of this year they rebranded the company with new colors, logos. slogans, clothing, etc. But this has also come with huge downsizing. The SWAT department was let go and some were rehired for a "new" department. It was basically fire and rehire for low pay. They now contract to a company over seas for similar work to what SWAT was doing, these over seas agents blow up customers phones all day trying to get customers to cancel their appointments. One of the VPs over Tech Ops in the bigsouth area left for another communication company late 2021 2 other VPs, that I know of, were let go within the past few months as well as a few managers. I spoke with some local techs and they stated that the company laid off a supervisor in the area and moved the teams coverage area around to be more productive. They have been working to get rid of warehouses for techs so they only have to maintain 1 warehouse. I believe we will see more cuts especially by next year. Comcast is really a smoke and mirrors company, they pretend to go with whatever is popular as long as it will make them money or give them power. Comcast uses surveys to find out what people are thinking so they can control the herd. They pretend to take ideas and recommendations out of the surveys, but it's always something that doesn't involve money and usually will just add work to the individual. All management are sellouts and are worthless. Comcast really doesn't care about you.

I've b been there a very long time. Layoffs are only part of the story. They have not been hiring much either. Field tech staff in my area are at less than half of what they were two years ago. Couple that with the company doing very little to the dead weight employees who feel they deserve a paycheck for just showing up, Comcast is proving to be a difficult place for those of us who churn and burn everyday for our paychecks, while the buying power of our wages has gone backwards for years. The newest phase of micro management is likely to bring many of us to seek greener pastures, as they say. The comments above about HR are no joke either...they are 100 percent there for the employer no matter which company you work for.

I have never worked for Comcast, but I'm posting here on this forum because I don't know where else to vent.

Comcast's contracted, offshore support is roughly 90% worthless.

I'm so frustrated with the lack of customer support with this company that it easily makes me want to hop ship and join AT&T instead, but from what I hear, their customer service sucks too.

There is no way that I can even enter a support ticket in myself because I can't even login to the Xfinity website. This is actually up to a Level 3 support ticket with Xfinity with no indication from them regarding any Service Level Agreement timeframe on when a customer can anticipate a resolution. ZERO stars, XFINITY, for "Customer Support".

Shaking my head now any company can literally expect any favourable rating with the sh---y level of customer service that's available. He-l, I'll even put in my OWN support ticket, but I CAN'T because I can't even log into the frickin' support site to do it!

The offshore folks in the Philippines get stars for their kindness, but ultimately they waste our time and eventually can't do squat.

Greater Chicago area just laid off half of their SWAT team and forced the others remaining to take a HUGE paycut. This whole giving all of leadership a raise. That was last Month. A few days ago they let go of about 10 supervisors from FTC, ER, and quota/routings. This along with a lot of employees in those departments. Another budget cut and whoever makes the most (sadly here that is like 25 bucks or a little higher) are the first to be let go. This after they recorded the most profitable quarter ever in the company history. This company pretends to be woke while doing this type of stuff behind the publics back by making an employee sign a NDA in return for a pathetic severance package. This company is on its way out. Investors look elsewhere. They will not last with the way they treat employees or customers and better tech is just around the corner.

Big mess in the Comcast Business division, we will see what happens. The numbers are the worst I have seen in 5 years. Many poorly made decisions have been made affecting customer and talent retention.

Take a layoff as a blessing. Terrible company to work for. They have no long term vision either. No future in voice or Internet. It’s all going wireless. Run people, run.

You're 100% correct. CMCSA HR is not your friend.

Agreed. Layoffs will always occur, but how corrupt that place is off the charts….HR isn’t your friend - and it’s better to get an attorney than the corporate ethics hotline.

I recently retired after ~20 years at CMCSA and learned a few things. There will always be layoffs so just get used to it. They might be performance based, market based or internal political battles out of your control. If your manager isn't on your side be sure to save emails, slack/teams messages or anything from customers singing your praises.

Milt, we're gonna need to go ahead and move you downstairs into storage B.

Most likely. Between the vax mandate and year end/budgeting I’m sure there will be layoffs.
