Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Personally, it was a huge hit to the ego getting pip-ed in July 2020. But it was the absolute best thing that has happened over the last few years for me personally and professionally. I was miserable at XOM but was comfortable and scared that I was unemployable elsewhere. I needed that kick in the bu-t to figure out what truly makes me happy and I found a company who cherishes my strengths instead of chastising me. I’m so much happier, make way more, have bonuses, rsu, 401k plus matching, great insurance, and management that actually cares.

I was PiPd as Retiree Eligible with 23 years.
But I also benefit from a trust fund from my grandpa - about $6M.

I'm using my EM lump sum in entirety to bring down this old dinosaur.

It takes little to destroy trust and morale. EM has done it many times over. It takes generations to repair the damage regardless what EM "leaders" make you to believe.

I didn’t get PIP’d but a lot of my friends did who were hard workers and doing the right thing. Figures I will be next eventually so figured why bother doing anything. Said I was working from home, but just looking for my next job. I’m thinking that when I get another job, I’m not going to quit Exxon, just tell my supervisor that I’m working remotely. Yes, I’ll log into my computer in the morning, during lunch, evening, answer a few emails and collect a paycheck from Exxon until they figure it out, then I’ll give my two weeks notice. Hey, I may get a check for another year, think I’ll write a book about it, or maybe a screenplay, it would make a great movie, everyone likes a movie based on a true story.

Doing the same as the majority of posters here. I was PIP'd this year. Not surprised though. I was hired in 2019 and they never really knew where to place me within the asset. Floated around until COVID hit. Got stuck in a sh&#^y spot until the return to office. Then the PSA came and nothing of consequence to list. And then the dreaded PIP. So I'm just doing what I can while the next great thing comes along. Hopefully a new position some where else, please God.

I took the PIP and started job hunting too. I got a job and then swapped to the PIL. Morale in my group was really low because excellent engineers were PIPd and everyone now understands they can be next. I was promised a long career with lots of opportunities and I stayed on thinking it may be tough but I’ll have a stable job for life. New job offered better location and 30% raise. Oh well!

It annoyed a lot of “strong ones” who stayed behind that I was overjoyed by the layoff because I’m now a retired millennial. Post-XOM life is fantastic.

Extremely poor.

Didn't get all of my personal belongings from my desk. Threatened to help with job transitioned or lose severance.

Still waiting on getting my Cobra premium refund that XOM is dragging their feet on paying out for no stated reasons.

I need to cut XOM loose out of my life, but it is not letting me with this sh---y issues.

Was PiP’d this last cycle. Stayed on to do the plan while I job hunted. Found a job and quit. Now getting paid by Exxon and my new employer until the end of the PiP period. So happy to have left.

Miserable before, wonderful after. No more sleepless night worries and endlessly ever increasing work load, not to mention countless bull.

I am not happy with all that has happened over the past year but realized a long time ago what was happening. Most people at ExxonMobil retire when they are told to not when they want to. Nothing new with that. It has been happening for years.

The biggest problem as I see it was the company created a narrative with workers that they were offering stable long term careers. This was shown to not be the case. At the first sign of trouble they dumped workers to protect the dividend. Now they are short handed and are hiring back former employees as contractors.

To make matters worse the “leaders” while saying we are all in this together showed little compassion to the worker bees and continued to collect their bonuses and high pay while cutting employees.
