Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Retiree healthcare

I hear people saying they want to hold on a few more years to get the retiree healthcare but then on the Facebook group “ExxonMobil Houston and Beyond! Retirees United” I see people commenting that it is no better than what anyone can get through AARP or other groups. What am I missing? Is this like so many other things at ExxonMobil where it was once a great benefit but now is worthless?

Retired this year and paying about $100 month more. Same plan as when actively employed.
Gas discount remains, and just received a letter they are allowing up to four cards - can be who you choose- BUT the maximum discount/savings per month will be capped at $70.

It was confirmed that monthly premiums double after retirement (between 55-65, family of 5)

That FB group is private and unless you are invited you can't join. So that really sucks for those that are retired and don't get invited. Can't get the needed/shared information.

All part of the smoke and mirrors used to get folks on board. The insurance has steadily declined over the years so it’s no surprise. Granted it’s better than nothing and could be worse. 100 a month more is not correct. Essentially you have the same coverage as an employee but the company doesn’t pay anything. You get the benefit of staying on their plan albeit a different plan than the employees. More cost cutting measures

I retired last year at 61. I have basically same coverage as when I was employed just pay a little more. About $100 more a month.

The retiree health plan did not change. It is still a good deal even with the ACA. The ACA can be changed or eliminated by Congress and a new executive administration. It like the pension are still worth holding out for as long as available. If one or the other go by the way side then I can see bailing ship.

"Much worse than it used to be"? "Changed drastically this summer"? Please help by providing more specific information.

I retired last year. I have not used my health care benefits much in the past year so maybe I did not notice the change. But I am sure I received no communications from EM about any changes to my health benefits.

Can someone please help explain what changed?

The main benefit of retiree healthcare is between age 55-60 and 65 when you are eligible for medicare. After 65, you should shop around for a medicare supplment package, EM may not be the best.

Won't be surprised if it further deteriorates. The XOM product discount that was available to retiree and surviving spouse is being discontinued effective Jan 2022. So starting Jan, retirees and surviving spouses won't be eligible for the product discount.

As well all know benefits will continue to go down. Best case they will stay as is. No meaningful additions.

The retiree healthcare is much worse than it used to be. Lots of people don’t do the research they should in terms of retirement planning and benefits to know these things. They just believe random tidbits of information they’ve been told in the past.
