But now, an article on the Waa Street Journal says Zayo is reportedly in talks to buy both Windstream and Uniti.

Zayo is a transport provider owned by an REIT. I can see why there's interest in UNITI but not windstream. What do they they gain? Take the whole thing and sell off the parts? Spin off the ILEC and sell what's left of CLEC?
