Clearly the 3rd quarter earnings did not move the stock upwards. AT&T most likely be broken up into its components and absorbed by its competitors. Wireless is the prize and could be taken over by Apple and the fiber picked up by Verizon. Stankey could walk away with up to 6 times his salary for change in control.

Verizon and AT&T are both getting super lean. The merger will come sooner than later. My only prayer is that Verizon buys ATT so I'll get a better severance
Everything is for sale at the right price and desperate circumstances! There is no way AT&T can reduce that debt on its own!!
DREAM ON...doubtful, highly doubtful that T will be broken up! Business units might be sold off, but the core will never be sold or absorbed by another carrier! Nothing more than wishful thinking on OP’s part!
The stock will be under $25 this time next week. Stock is headed to $24 by year end!! Stock holder value is evaporating faster than liquid nitrogen!
The Stank's goal is the same as mine : to make easy money even if others have to lose. Very simple and easy plan to manage
from a simplistic perspective most large global enterprise companies are worth more broken up
That is a simplistic perspective, indeed.
from a simplistic perspective most large global enterprise companies are worth more broken up...wireless, 5G, IoT, FirstNet, Edge Services, Fiber and some ancillary strategic services are the way to the future, what does TMobile offer where a Micrsoft or Amazon could not acquire them, Verizon also is just a different version of T.
With DTV and TW gone Stankey can give 100% of his attention to wireless, and given his track record that should be scary!!!!
Imagine a world where we did not buy any companies for the last ten years and invested some of that money in broadband and we’re already at 30 million homes passed …. The goal for 2025. The current performance is wireless and broadband would have the ability to actually move the stock up.
The problem isn’t wireless (it’s kicked Verizon’s bu-t the last five quarters) or broadband (it’s does well where fiber is available). The issue is a string of incredibly bad investment decisions by a nice but utterly inept CEO. Every single major purchase (DIrectv, Mexico wireless assets, TimeWarner, AppNexus) were failures that diluted the stock and added destructive debt. It’s simply going to take years to make up for all the lost value.
I wouldn’t at all be surprised if the company spun off Business services to someone like Verizon by this time next year
The breakup value is worth more than the current market cap.
Source?
Without wireless, T is DOA.
pay no attention to the pink elephant in the room (AKA the debt and stock price) we’re all jabbed! All is well!
For all those that doubt AT&T can’t be broken up just remember the stock was at $40 and is struggling to keep above $25. The breakup value is worth more than the current market cap.
5 years from now T will be broken into several parts to salvage it.
AT&T is going down the same path that C Michael Armstrong took it. The old AT&T wireless was bought by SBC and subsequently Ed bought AT&T. So AT&T as it exists now could be be taken over in the long term.
NO CHANCE, NEVER GONNA HAPPEN! As previously stated, T is a cash cow and is too big overall to acquire. No company would acquire as much personnel as T currently has. Perhaps, if it was scaled down to 125 thousand employees, then maybe, but I doubt even then.
All these people have sure not read Stankey's employment contract. In all my 30 years in corporate America, the most any CEO would get for change in control is 3X. All of his direct reports are also employed by contract with similar terms.
In the Long Term wireless could be on the block.
Telecom is a scale business. There's previous few facts to support the hypothesis that splitting up the Communications company would be value-accretive.
Replacing senior management, on the other hand, is hard to argue against. Elliot has already laid out the argument
Or just change the name to Wireless Max. Yeah that will work
Your id--ts..AT&T isn’t selling Wireless…it’s a cash cow and fiber is doing well. These absurd posts about Apple or anyone else buying the company is pure bu-----t. It isn’t being sold you delusional fools.
Stankey would hit the jackpot if the company is broken up with the 6 times salary compensation and rise is stock price. Apple has the deep pockets to build out 5G without breaking a sweat. Amazon could get the fiber piece and build it out without a hit to its balance sheet!!
Dish could make a bid on AT&T wireless and could pass government approval on the vertical integration principle , the same argument AT&T used to buy DTV. With the current management, obligations and debt breaking up the company is the only way to unlock its higher value.
"Stankey could walk away with up to 6 times his salary for change in control. "
That is a good point.
The only thing Stink is good at is lining his bank account. He could be very busy behind the scenes working on this. Only stumbling blocks might be the $100B in debt - nobody is going to want to absorb Ratty's mistakes. Plus the Stink has his hands full just dumping TW into Discovery. I have a feeling some regulator in Europe is going to stop it and the T will have to pay BILLIONS for another failed merger!
Blue horseshoe loves AT&T wireless!
