Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Are the most talented people departing?

At least at the rank and file level, I’m seeing the most talented/experienced/pedigreed people depart. Anyone else seeing this? In the last month alone the 2 most capable people in my team have left. A third left in July. In my orbit at least, the talent drain is shocking

3 weeks was only a CYA move because leadership knew the Noble deal was coming with that package and Chevroids would sue. Next time it will be two weeks. Or less!

Attrition is ramping up in the support functions, which according to MKW aren't "real" heroes or "assets" to the business, as they don't get O&G out of the ground. So there is "no attrition problem" at CVX. Carry on.

Three weeks per year won’t ever happen again.

Over a years salary is easily possible ! Package was 3 weeks per year of service in US last year but I hear it was higher in some other countries.

@5cik "over a years salary" Incorrect. Wrong. Fake news. I would suggest that you troll some other site since you obviously don't work for Chevron.

@3xvi+1drNYIgk over a year's salary. I have interviewed at other companies to test the waters and optimistic about what's out there. Now it's just a waiting game for my exit bonus.

Exxon is having brain drain as well as smarter people leave the industry. CEO announced major salary hikes planned. Will Chevron do the same?

If it weren't for that sweet severance package waiting for me at the next layoff... I'd be out in a hot minute.

True Talent has no problem leaving for better opportunities or create the opportunities and they continue to succeed. What I have seen that those “other than the higher ups” that stay long term have developed a “being institutionalized” persona. They can’t go anywhere or retire because “the routine” has taken over. You then have a large group of people going through “the grind” and that’s it.

Our CEO thinks Chevron is a software company. Too much koolaid about Agile even though we know it doesn't work for the oil industry. Agile takes way too many meetings, eventually the real technical experts either checkout or get sidelined and we end up with a sub-optimal solution. Triple Crown is a perfect example of a multi-million dollar mess. Its just a matter of time we end up ki----g someone due to a half-a-s/buggy agile project.

Some general comments on this post:

  1. Historically, 'the best' have always flown the coop from large companies, which are burdened by bureaucracy and cronyism. CVX is no exception, and in fact has gotten worse the last few years. 'The Best' cannot stay the best by working at Chevron; just take a look at your Fellows (now all D&I placements), few of whom have any name recognition outside of Chevron and SR.
  2. Chevron under MW has quietly given up on 'developing high performance individuals' (Chevron Way stuff), and instead now toys with social engineering and preferential treatment to the 'underrepresented' rather than the 'high performers'.
  3. CTC suffers the double-whammy of managers who were run out of BU positions (or re-patriated from failed foreign assignments, a la EB), and staff no BU wants, because they have no practical experience. Most BUs now outsource their technical work to cheaper and more accountable outside parties.
  4. Outside of high-pots and relatives, MW and his gang view the working staff as interchangeable and replaceable, hence why 'career development' has disappeared from the company vocabulary. MW has no intention of you working for Chevron for more than maybe 10 years. Should you stay more than 15-20 years, you will become 'stale' and unemployable by other companies. Take a look around, it's no coincidence that 'the best' leave Chevron after the 'sweet spot' 10-20 years experience.

With the woke, D.I.E., and CRT bent culture advancing at CVX it is not surprising that the best talent is heading for greener pastures. I see that there are still a few of the woke(the 3%?) here protesting and in denial. One day they will learn that for or against, career professionals are not seeking places to mold their ideologies, but a place to work in a technical field , contribute to a productive organization and advance in their profession. If CVX is pushing a different agenda, including an unwanted political culture or environment, people will leave, and that includes the best talent in many cases. Most employees simply don't want to have to deal with it. They want a job not a cult.

CTC is mostly entrenched incompetent leaders so no place for them to go. Most not welcome back in BUs and they lack the technical chops for real work.

So good to see someone who thinks

"CVX equals WOKE
CVX equals Cancel Culture
CVX equals Critical Race Theory
CVX equals a company I no longer wish to associated with or invest my money".
no longer investing. You are outdated and in 10 years you and your type will be totally irrelevant in our company and society . Haters always end up losing and you won't be happy anywhere you work or in life. So good to see we will lose losers that think like this. Im sure you are super below average as all people that think like you are.

In my “orbit” the leadership are so uninspiring and only interested in buttering up their boss that those who are competent don’t see the effort to perform worth it in the long run. There is no future in this company that interests those who are talented and hard working. Only see this changing if CVX is bought out or leadership is completely overhauled. Not something I see happening. So the only option is to leave or just take the salary and do the bare minimum. I can only see it getting worse.

Agreed. Anyone worth anything has gone or are considering leaving or just in it for the $$ at this point. “Last dude” and OP are not whining - just stating the facts while trying to make sense of it all as they see CVX deteriorating in workforce and talent. Leadership either don’t care or are in denial. Is there hope for change?

Dont worry, we still have plenty of employees like the last dude, complaining about CRT on an anonymous message board instead of actually working.

Newsflash: you dont think CVX is “woke”, you think everything is woke, and you’ll complain anywhere you happen to work at. You’re a whiner.
